Tamara Willems

how it is we spend our days…

how it is we spend our days,
is
how it is
we spend our
days

today I’m thinking  briefly about
what it is I could have done
if only I had…

and
what I would be like
if only I was…

where I would be
if I were…

and what that would be like
for me

I catch sight of myself in a mirror
one of those, objects may be closer than they appear
rather tired and I suppose, I look it
pensive
slightly puffed

I’m thinking what it would be like
to list all of the things we like about ourselves
in appearance in
character, in
virtues
and then, make a list of all of the things
we
don’t
like
which list comes easier
and
which list is it do you think, we would remember
most
which one stays with us
like a small spike in one’s side
until
the words of someone kind
touch us
and how very soft we become
when once we are
adored

what if we spent our days
looking kindly on ourselves
knowing what a joy it is to be here
as we
are
exactly,  as we are

knowing that love travels through us
swirls around us
gathers
in us
every day
(it’s all an inside job)

how would it be
if we smiled at ourselves
more
and lamented
less

if we appreciated the things that make us
us
and honoured them
kindly
gratefully
reverently

we are curious creatures,  and how we choose
to spend our days
is
precisely, how
we choose
to spend our days

sat here, by my window to the world
what I’m thinking about today is
the realness of beauty
and how very much I value
not only the
flower and the flourish
but also
the gentle softening nature
of  rain  ♥
