Today it’s a walk in the woods
taking with me,
my big bag of words…
have you ever taken a walk in the woods
a hike or a
wander
you come to a spot, completely shrouded by
trees
it is dullish and quiet
possibly you have lost sight
of the
path
and you wonder for a minute
how it is you will ever find the way
out
and you think to kick yourself
for getting into this
mess
again
not so smart, and what… now
what have you done
I mean, you know well it’s not completely
hopeless
you have brought a torch
(should you need it)
and you know not too far up ahead
there is of course, always.. a return
to light
yet you opt instead to stop here
(whimper just a little to yourself, knowing that is how
you will feel better)
shhh.. you will say, soft pat on the shoulder
in the quiet
in the
dark
open the drawstring on your bag of words
and let them all
loose
in a great chorus of chatter
they float up in the trees
and get stuck
in the branches
above
making your load a little
lighter
you will find here, if you sit for just a minute
let your eyes adjust to the light
what filters in
is
a kind of tenderness
perhaps you’ve been seeking
a few soft words come loose from the branches
float down then, words like
gentle
and kind
rest themselves at your feet
and wait just there
until you are ready to take up
the path
again
while edgy, irksome and cynical
settle in on the forest floor
setting themselves down
as
compost
when you have sufficiently caught your breath
filled your lungs
rested your feet and
back
you take up your bag again
and begin the slow
walk
out
collecting words that will be useful
along the way
like grace,
and like
love ♥
