Tamara Willems

a breath of fresh light…

when first i wake
the sun is shining

put the coffee on to perk
and warm to the smell of cinnamon
and dark roast

outside the window
a beautiful little nuthatch
sits atop the suet cake

while the grey squirrel
nibbles in the feeder
early risers

welcome the comfort
and quiet
of my favourite chair
as I sink in
with
a
book

the rhythm of words
remind me
to breathe
deeply

the cardinal taps at the window
encouraging me
to look up
and
notice
the light breaking through cloud
and now
shining brightly
on my face

breathe ever more
deeply in..
bringing in light
and allowing
it
to consume
me

on to the duties
of an ordinary
day
laundry, dishes
a little pre-Christmas sparkling
with the kids,
some baking

breathe in
the warming spicy
scents
of a life

and smile
from head to toe

caught up in this swell
filling myself
with Love
with Light
and Gratitude

until I hear you
come home
from
your fishing trip

and the other side of the bed
feels warm
again

and I can exhale
all that I am
into
you

my
comfort
and
my
peace ♥
