{"id":1007,"date":"2016-12-17T11:27:37","date_gmt":"2016-12-17T16:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tamara.tedzplace.ca\/?p=1007"},"modified":"2016-12-17T11:27:37","modified_gmt":"2016-12-17T16:27:37","slug":"and-since-weve-no-place-to-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tamara.tedzplace.ca\/?p=1007","title":{"rendered":".. and since we&#8217;ve no place to go &#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Up and out the door before 8:00<br \/>\nbefore I have even un-cricked my fingers<br \/>\nI slip into my husband&#8217;s snowpants and boots<br \/>\nand bundle up to shovel some snow<br \/>\nmy husband helps to clear the end a little<br \/>\nwhere the snowplow has pushed in the heavy stuff<br \/>\nthen he is off to work<br \/>\nnow<br \/>\nit&#8217;s just me<br \/>\nand the dog<br \/>\nover to the neighbour&#8217;s house first<br \/>\nwe set to work, clearing<br \/>\nwell I say we, \u00a0my partner is Ted (my dog)<br \/>\nhe instantly picks his spot to lay down<br \/>\nand just keep me company<br \/>\nas I go<br \/>\nwhen I am nearing the top of the drive<br \/>\nmy neighbour comes out for a brief chat<br \/>\nI ask how she is doing, and if her son<br \/>\nwill be coming for Christmas<br \/>\nwe chat about the weather, then I shoo her back indoors<br \/>\nas she doesn&#8217;t like me to have to do all this work<br \/>\nand at 85, I don&#8217;t want her doing any of it<br \/>\nonce back across the street, Ted and I<br \/>\nbegin at the house beside us<br \/>\nI do her front walk, and then my front walk<br \/>\nTed lays down<br \/>\nI do part of her drive<br \/>\nthen part of my drive,<br \/>\nstop for a brief chat with a man from down the street<br \/>\nwho&#8217;s just moved in<br \/>\nthen Ted&#8217;s had enough of this shoveling business<br \/>\nand decides he&#8217;s going in<br \/>\nnow that I have stopped for a minute<br \/>\nit&#8217;s harder to get going again<br \/>\nbefore I am even half done the driveway<br \/>\nof the lady next door<br \/>\nI feel myself running out of steam<br \/>\nI can push, but now I can barely lift<br \/>\nmaybe I&#8217;ll just do half<br \/>\nI start to grumble to myself<br \/>\nshe has kids, who are adults, and grandchildren<br \/>\nthey come to see her, \u00a0take her for groceries<br \/>\nthey all drive, aren&#8217;t that far away,<br \/>\nbut<br \/>\nthey never shovel,<br \/>\nnever have &#8230;<br \/>\nmy shovel digs into a rut, \u00a0and I am jolted<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s it, \u00a0I can&#8217;t finish, I grumble<br \/>\nthen I stop, for a breath<br \/>\nlean on my shovel<br \/>\nlook up at the trees<br \/>\nlisten to the little chickadee singing me his song<br \/>\nchickadee-dee-dee<br \/>\na small flock of geese fly over<br \/>\ncalling their chorus<br \/>\nI smile, and carry on<br \/>\nwhen I am almost finished my neighbour<br \/>\npops her head out<br \/>\nI check to see she is doing ok<br \/>\ntake her garbage out<br \/>\nshe thanks me again, \u00a0as she always does<br \/>\nand I say,<br \/>\nit&#8217;s no problem<br \/>\nand then I go back<br \/>\nto finish my own<br \/>\nTed returns to join me<br \/>\nmy moral support<br \/>\nthe tiniest second wind<br \/>\nspurs me on<br \/>\nand I finish up<br \/>\nwe go collect some fresh birdseed<br \/>\nfor the feeders<br \/>\nthen Ted and I are ready<br \/>\nto go in<br \/>\ntaking off everything I have now sweat through<br \/>\nI return to the comfort of<br \/>\nmy jammies<br \/>\ngrab my morning coffee<br \/>\na homemade chocolate chip cookie<br \/>\nand sink into<br \/>\nmy chair<br \/>\nit&#8217;s now 10:15<br \/>\nI think, \u00a0I&#8217;ve earned it<\/p>\n<p>from my chair<br \/>\nby the window<br \/>\nthe snow<br \/>\nand the world<br \/>\nlook quiet lovely<br \/>\ntoday \u2665<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Up and out the door before 8:00 before I have even un-cricked my fingers I slip into my husband&#8217;s snowpants and boots and bundle up to shovel some snow my husband helps to clear the end a little where the&hellip;
