This morning I sit
\nin my chair
\nreading
\nI look out the window to watch
\ndelicate snowflakes
\nwaltzing their way softly to the ground
\nand then, slowly
\ndisappear
\non the piano my Buddha sits
\nsmiling
\ncontent
\nbeside him a lovely little otter lies on his back
\non the other side Gumby jubilantly riding Pokey
\nbeside a ceramic hippo and a jar of buttons
\nin the kitchen
\nmy love is making bread
\nfrom a starter dough he\u2019s been steadily
\ncultivating
\nat my feet the dogs
\nare sleeping
\nand the cat periodically wanders through
\nwaiting not so patiently for me to get up
\nto feed him
\na gathering of squirrels is raiding the birdfeeder
\nwhile one lovely grey hangs from his toes
\nat the suet cake
\nfrom the record player Bruce Springsteen
\nis easing us through the morning
\ndull but menacing worries are trying to knot themselves up
\nin my stomach
\nbut instead of feeding this
\nI am choosing to sit in utter
\ncontentment
\nand
\njoy
\nbreathing in
\nthe quiet beauty of my life
\nmy
\nhome
\nand my
\nheart
\nI am much blessed, and as such
\nI\u00a0actively
\ncelebrate this
\neveryday
\nthe good fortune of a very good man
\nbrilliantly creative, sensitive, wildly good humoured
\nchildren
\ngenuine caring, much soul bolstering friends
\nand an openness to beauty
\nand love
\nin all its fantastical forms
\nI don\u2019t see myself as anything so grand
\nbut I do hope the mark I will
\nleave on this world
\nis
\nkindness
\nit\u2019s the simplest gift
\nit is the greatest joy
\nit is Love
\nin its highest form
\nthis is the light
\nthat I hold in my heart
\nand the fingerprints I hope to
\nleave
\non anything I have touched
\nand in my words
\nthoughts and intentions
\nas they float
\nout my window
\nand take to the sky
\nI hope today you see a
\nbeautiful smile
\nthat you will feel even just a touch
\nof joy
\nand contentment
\nthat the great gift of simple kindness
\nreaches you
\nso that you will feel
\nLove
\nand that your day begins
\nand ends
\nin gratitude<\/p>\n
and most especially to you my friend, as I sit in the comfort of my chair
