Before my eyes are even open
\nI am listening
\nto the birds outside my window
\ntrying to identify their call
\nwhile my husband quietly readies himself for work
\ncareful not to wake me, on my day off
\nand this begins my day
\nwith an act of Love
\nthe woman on the radio says we are in for another cloudy day
\nyet already I can feel
\nthe sun on my skin
\nI can hear the scrape of a shovel, as my husband is clearing the neighbour’s drive
\nas ever so slowly I open the fingers on both hands
\nto a gentle stretching
\nand just as my toes touch the floor
\nhe pulls out of the drive
\nsitting with my coffee, I can feel the sun warming
\nthe top of my head
\nas I willingly disappear into my book
\neven through the window
\na tiny little peep, let\u2019s me know Gord our little downy woodpecker is back
\nand I am pleased to see him again
\nso dear to my heart, I would know that sound anywhere
\nthe other day my husband calls me to the kitchen to point out
\na new visitor to the feeder
\na red-bellied woodpecker, of which we have not seen in our garden before
\nmuch larger than Gord, (and to my thinking not quite as lovely)
\nbut certainly most welcome
\nas I pour myself a second cup, \u00a0I survey the feeders in hopes of another glimpse
\nof this bit of wonder
\nthe glorious sunlight lights upon the fresh snow
\nin glistening sparkles like diamonds in dance
\nand I think to myself
\nwhat a blessing
\nthis day,
\nsunshine does such marvelous things to the soul!<\/p>\n
As I will say does kindness …
\nI have occasion to share bits of myself here
\nin openness and vulnerability
\nthis of course has the possibility of exposing oneself
\nto intentional wounding
\nyet when you are bound by Love
\nbolstered by Light
\nand inspired by Beauty
\nit really just takes the simplest
\nteeniest
\ntiniest
\nthing
\nto make your heart sing
\nand that my friends
\nis a true
\ntrue
\nblessing.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
