I have a very strong aversion to the telephone.
\nIf you know me, possibly you already know this.
\nReally if it didn\u2019t sound rude, my voicemail message would say – don\u2019t call me, because I probably won\u2019t call you \u2026
\nHowever, some days, as today, the outside world intrudes.
\nAnd so this morning, I steel myself for a couple of phone calls I need to make.<\/p>\n
One to a very nice sounding man from the bank who has been calling me quite frequently because he has \u2018something specific he needs to discuss with me\u2019.\u00a0 I have put this off for more than a week, due to a kind of timely case of laryngitis, and some skilled procrastination, but I decide in \u2018light\u2019 of today\u2019s sunshine, I should give this man the courtesy of calling him back.\u00a0 Besides, the inquisitor in me, reasons that maybe a long lost relative has left me some kind of windfall and they are just trying to reach me, to come and open the vault!
\nHa!\u00a0 The conclusion to this is a lot less exciting,
\nAlthough Jordan from the bank does sound very nice he merely wanted to see if there was any way they could serve me better in my banking needs.\u00a0 I assure him, apart from cancelling any and all debts and indeed opening that vault to someone quite deserving such as me,
\nI am happy with my banking, and \u2026\u00a0 doing the best I can.
\nRight,\u00a0 deep breath in and ready myself for call number two, which I am sure will not be as short and sweet, as I am still trying to sort out a billing error.\u00a0 \u00a0Wading patiently through the automated system, I hold for a live operator\u2013 \u2018because my call is important to them\u2019.\u00a0\u00a0 To which I am told that due to technical difficulties, they cannot connect me to a live operator!
\nUgh \u2026\u00a0 forced to resort to the live chat, which generally proves unproductive,\u00a0 but keeping an open mind I venture in.\u00a0\u00a0 Explaining my inquiry to live chat operator number one,\u00a0 the response is your balance is paid and shows as $0.00 owing \u2013 I will patch you through to Robert in billing to look into this.\u00a0 Robert in billing says \u201cI don\u2019t know why you have been patched to me, as your balance is $0.00 owing.\u201d
\nTo which I shrug, at the absurdness of big business, say my Thank you to Robert, and confirm my convictions of \u2018fighting the man\u2019 ..\u00a0 in my own quiet way.
\nDeep exhale.<\/p>\n
The very next call, (if I have not completely lost you in boredom already) – the next call,\u00a0 I answer,
\nBecause outside my window the Blue Jays are calling, and the sunshine, apple blossoms and tulips.\u00a0 So I slip on my trusty flip flops, grab my camera and step out the door.
\nAlmost immediately every delicious thing that captures my senses greets me on the doorstep, as I begin my walk of gratitude,
\nand fills my heart to overflowing
\nfor the day.
\nUtter joy
\nin
\nBeauty,
\nmuch better.<\/p>\n
Really, who needs a telephone anyway?<\/p>\n
