I feel myself mired in the ‘muck’ of August, the waning of summer days
\nflowers are slowly beginning to fade, and thin
\nthings start to look a little more brown and a little less
\nfresh
\nthe sun is shining, \u00a0but clouds keep closing in
\nand i seem to be settling into a sullenness of sorts
\nnot uncommon this time of year
\nas school resumes and pieces of me begin once again
\nto scatter
\none son is off already, another soon to follow
\none daughter struggles with uncertainty, the other dread
\ni feel each one .. \u00a0tugging strings
\nand ushering tears
\nit makes no sense to me to wish away days
\nso instead I resolve to gathering ..
\nto gathering days of family laughter, memories and inside jokes
\nto enjoying each others company
\nand how fortunate we are in that
\nto gathering sunlight as it streams down in golden
\nhighlights that make the apples on our apple tree blush
\nto a gathering of hues
\nthe reds and soft browns of our resident cardinal family
\ntwo babies this year, possibly twins still travelling with Mom and Dad
\nthe beautiful blues and gorgeous greys of a posse of blue jays
\nwho have decided they should be the first to test the apples for ripeness this year
\nto gathering thoughts and words that seem to swirl in my head
\nand in my heart
\nsometimes like glorious ribbons of silk
\nand sometimes like a gnarled tangle of knots
\nto gathering simple joys
\nand simple pleasures
\nand brief glimpses of purity
\nto gathering love and kindnesses
\nthat help to carry me through loss
\nand heaviness
\nto gathering friendships and connections
\nand unconditional grace
\nand to gathering in myself
\nwhen I need to
\nto feel
\nand to see
\nto hear
\nand to touch
\nin a life and a love
\nthat gathers me
\nin
\nin gracious gratitude
\nand a peaceful pausing
\nand returns me to Love
