My face is a mess
\nI have broken out again
\nin spots
\nyet one more of the many joys of being a woman
\nthat never ceases, it would seem
\nno matter one\u2019s age
\nand today no amount of cover-up
\nwill do as advertised
\nnormally, as I don\u2019t really have to be
\nanywhere today
\nI would grumble a bit and then gladly leave the mirror behind
\nand just not be bothered
\nin a practice of not stressing myself about things
\nI cannot change
\nthings that are beyond my control
\n(see most things!)
\nI could just leave this mess,
\nnot look
\nbut this morning I am expecting a visitor
\nand who
\nwants to look at this?
\nso I dab on a little make-up
\nand I wipe it off and I dab it on
\nand I wipe it off
\nin utter frustration, and growing helplessness
\nOut, damned spot! Out, I say!<\/p>\n
… and yet there they sit
\nstaring back at me
\nnasty little blemishes
\nwith pale bits of make-up smeared around
\nmasking absolutely
\nnothing<\/p>\n
and so, \u00a0(in a practice)
\nI surrender my need
\nfor cover
\nturn the noise down on my inner dialogue
\nand instead, I let it be…
\nmy face is a mess,
\nbut I
\nam
\nnot<\/p>\n
it is after all a perfectly perfect day
\noutside
\nto walk with gratitude
\nin the light of sunshine
\nto look for myself among the flowers
\nand as seems to happen,
\nwithout fail
\nit is here that I find
\nmyself
\nreflected<\/p>\n
in a lovely little black-eyed Susan
\nas she sits
\namong the other bloomers
\nher delicate petals folded in
\ncovering her face
\nnot yet ready to open herself up
\nto the world
\nI smile at this little beauty
\nwith love
\ngently willing her petals to
\nunfold<\/p>\n
I pause,
\nput my hand to my heart
\nand then,
\nin kindness
\nI
\nlet
\nher
\nbe…<\/p>\n
as I know,
\nsoon enough
\nthe glorious sun will works it\u2019s magic
\nand she will be drawn by this
\nbeautiful light
\nto bravely opening herself
\nfully
\nin her own time
\nassured in the
\nknowledge
\nthat her real beauty
\nalways
\nshines from
\nwithin<\/p>\n
blemishes
