Stupid
\nis just one of those words
\nI don\u2019t use<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t use hate, I don\u2019t use fat
\nI don\u2019t say shut up<\/p>\n
ever
\nI don\u2019t say them,\u00a0 I don\u2019t like to hear them
\nI choose not to
\nwear them
\nI don\u2019t like the taste of them
\non my tongue<\/p>\n
and today,
\nI can taste it\u2026<\/p>\n
I don\u2019t watch the news much
\nI find it frustrating, and as my family can tell you, I find myself
\narguing with the tv too much
\nso instead, I try and catch the weather and then turn it
\nto a cooking show
\nI gave up reading the newspaper
\nnot much good there, anyway
\nI try to stay informed, I am open,
\nbut I choose what I read, and to what depth
\nand I choose what I see and to what great detail over, and over and over
\nand I choose
\nwhat I allow to enter into the sanctity of my own home
\nand attach itself here<\/p>\n
this can be hard sometimes
\nI don\u2019t turn a blind eye
\nor believe if we are quiet and smile
\neverything will just be ok
\nI am aware
\nof what is happening in the world
\nand it can be troubling
\nto say the least<\/p>\n
I am sensitive you know,
\nI am a wonder-er
\nand a questioner
\nand when things have me feeling
\nweighted
\nI guess,
\nI am a writer
\nI have great respect for words
\nand I feel the need to honour them
\nwith grace<\/p>\n
also,
\nI am
\na purveyor of kindness
\nand love
\nno matter how small and feeble
\nthis may at times seem<\/p>\n
my biggest problem today, is that my washing machine
\nwon\u2019t work
\nnot that a mob of angry white men carrying mosquito repellent torches
\nis gathering in my street
\nnot that people choose to be too ignorant of what has come before
\nto recognize the real dangers here
\nnot that selfishness and unkindness seem to be gathering speed
\nnot that angry voices, and violent rhetoric have so willingly replaced whispers
\nof hope
\nfrom supposed leaders
\nand then there’s the awful feeling
\nof standing together,\u00a0 but not quite able
\nto touch
\nno, \u00a0my biggest problem today
\nis, that I can’t seem to get my clothes
\nclean<\/p>\n
I walk out to the pond, where I try to clear away
\nthe thick covering of duckweed
\nand offer the fish an opening
\nto sunlight<\/p>\n
while I am there a loud thud lands on the roof of the cabin
\nabove my head
\nand I realize I have frozen for a moment
\nin fear
\nnot knowing what this intruder may be
\nlooming
\nthis is what I am carrying today
\nfear
\nuntil \u00a0I see, \u00a0as he hops to a branch in the nearby tree
\nit\u2019s just a squirrel
\nand now
\nhe
\nis
\nafraid
\nof
\nme<\/p>\n
and then I breathe\u2026<\/p>\n
quietly now, \u00a0I put out an offering of nuts
\nand as the blues start to arrive
\nand the little grey
\nbravely edges his way in<\/p>\n
I take my place in the sun
\nand I offer my gratitude<\/p>\n
for a heart that is love
\nand a spirit that is kind
\nand a mind that is open<\/p>\n
and, \u00a0as this is all I have
\nto shake the world in my gentle way<\/p>\n
so this too
\nis what I have
