I\u2019ve just this morning finished a fantastic book, called Ghost Boy by Martin Pistorius.\u00a0 This book was offered to me by a lovely friend.\u00a0 I\u2019ve tried to \u2018ward off\u2019 being lent books too often, as I usually have at least four waiting to come in,\u00a0 on hold at the library –\u00a0 which seem to instinctively all arrive at the same time keeping my \u2018to be read\u2019 pile amply full.\u00a0 That is not to mention books I pick up second hand, or order in \u2026 or the possible thousands I already have piled up at home!<\/p>\n
I do greatly accept book recommendations, suggestions and of course my favourite \u2013 free books sent to me for\u00a0 \u2018first read\u2019\u00a0 or really free books sent to me at any time. (part of what gets me into this mess!)<\/p>\n
Also I tend to prefer non-fiction books, biography and memoir to fiction, not always ..\u00a0 but mostly.\u00a0 That and a certain aversion to \u2018following the crowd\u2019 \u2013 my husband will tell you, if the crowd is going left –\u00a0 I am most definitely \u2026\u00a0\u00a0 going right!\u00a0 Leaves me rarely encouraged by the words \u2018international best seller\u2019.\u00a0 \u00a0I guess,\u00a0 I like to discover ..\u00a0 on my own.<\/p>\n
Anyway, to my point is this book, I have just finished.\u00a0 \u00a0Ghost Boy, lent to me as I said by a lovely friend, and I do appreciate her kindness, so somewhat reluctantly I interrupt my regularly scheduled reading pile.\u00a0 \u00a0 At the top, in bold letters \u2013 INTERNATIONAL BESTSELLER.\u00a0 \u00a0Hmmh..\u00a0 \u00a0 It is indeed a autobiography memoir so \u2026\u00a0 I begin.<\/p>\n
What I can tell you about this book is it is a fantastic read.\u00a0 A beautiful story of the indelible strength of the human spirit, of kindness and of Love.\u00a0 It is astonishing, and humbling and at times horrifying,\u00a0 but in all ways it is inspiring.\u00a0 It underlines the importance of human kindness to one another and the undeniable importance of human touch.\u00a0 Of empowerment.\u00a0 Of seeing each other fully regardless of our challenges or abilities and of respect for human dignity.\u00a0 And always of the abundant power of hope, Love and kindness.<\/p>\n
What also touches me is that when I was handed this book, I see it is a paperback brownish, beige-ish, slightly pinkish.\u00a0 With the words Ghost Boy printed on the front.\u00a0 I start reading it without reading any reviews or summaries of what it\u2019s about.\u00a0 It is only when I am about half way through and I see a picture of it on my Goodreads site \u2013 that I realize that on the cover –\u00a0 is a face,
\nthat I had not somehow seen there.\u00a0 I guess I looked at the cover as an abstract.\u00a0 I began it thinking –\u00a0 ok, I\u2019ll get through this, because I have another book waiting for me already.\u00a0 It is only after I am fully invested in Martin\u2019s story that I realize ..\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I have not seen him,\u00a0 on the cover.

This and Martin\u2019s story make me think of how often we may look, (or choose not to) but we don\u2019t see.
\nMartin\u2019s story of incredible strength and endurance, the people who touch his life and unfailingly believe in him.
\nAnd just how much we are capable of when we offer a simple kindness to each other.
\nWhen we choose to look
\ninside.<\/p>\n
Regardless of our \u2018outside packaging\u2019 \u2013 we are, all of us,\u00a0 given the opportunity,
\nindeed capable of much more
\nwhen we
\ntogether
\ntake each other\u2019s hands.<\/p>\n
We all deserve simple kindness.<\/p>\n
We all
\nneed
\nsimple
\nkindness<\/p>\n
This doesn’t seem to be asking too much, does it?<\/p>\n
to be seen
\nto be
\nheard
\nto
\nbe
\nkind<\/p>\n
and always
\nto be
\ngrateful<\/p>\n
we are all capable of
\nmore<\/p>\n
I promise you, you will benefit from reading Martin Pistorius’ story.<\/p>\n
