And so the snow arrives,
\nmaking everything look quite lovely
\nsoft and fresh
\noutside
\nand I wonder if I should go out and shovel
\nthis time of year, I don\u2019t get to see my husband
\nas much as I\u2019d like
\n’tis the season for the line of work he\u2019s in
\nlate to get home, early again when he\u2019s gone
\nbarely a dent in our bed
\nproof that he\u2019s been here in the empty hangers left
\nwhere the suit I readied for him last night used to be
\nand in the drive
\nfresh tire tracks in the snow
\nwhen I come down,
\nit’s to coffee by myself
\nbut already hot and waiting
\nI sit and watch the squirrels, one in the feeder
\nwhile below, one digs about for the bits that fall
\nand the Juncos
\nI envision them all with little red scarves
\nas they come and go
\nand I smile
\nI don\u2019t much like the cold, because I guess
\nit often comes with grey
\nand it\u2019s harsh, sometimes it hurts
\nbut it does have a lovely fresh look
\nand feel,
\nand it certainly makes one grateful to have
\nheat
\nblankets, sweaters and
\nsnuggly things
\ntoo there is a certain beautiful
\npeace
\nin watching big fluffy snowflakes fall
\nsilently
\nto the ground
\nafter all, it\u2019s only a little\u2026
\nand yes, it is December so we know
\nto expect this, don\u2019t we
\non to the laundry
\nafter a brief respite,
\nthe white bits of fluff, sailing past the window
\nstart to increase
\nby now it\u2019s a lovely time of day
\nlate in the afternoon
\nthe light has become sort of dim
\nit makes one feel
\nlike settling in
\nadding to the fluff, some rather raucous Christmas music
\nand my daughters are feeling a little more festive
\nthan I
\nas they bundle up, to head out
\nwith the dogs
\nI\u2019m rather content to just
\nwatch
\nit
\nfall
\nso, instead
\nI sit down with a nice cup of tea
\nsend a love note to my husband
\nbreathe in deep
\nand from the fullness of my heart
\nall the way
\ndown
\nto
\nmy
\nwarm
\nlittle
\nt
