This morning I finish a book
\nand I am
\ncompletely broken,\u00a0 a very \u00a0large pile of tissues beside me
\nstill,\u00a0 in the quiet of a beautiful morning, sat
\nsobbing my heart out
\nI have just finished The Bright Hour<\/strong>
\na memoir of living and dying<\/em> by Nina Riggs<\/strong>
\nand though I knew by the title where I was heading,
\nI so did not want this one
\nto end
\nthis is quite an extraordinary book, and if you ever want a reassurance
\nof life
\nof love
\nof living
\nand the infinitesimal-ness of your current problems
\nthan this is a must read
\nfor
\nyou
\nI keep looking at the picture of the author inside the back cover
\nand I am so very grateful to see the absolute beauty
\nin her smile<\/p>\n

While I am digesting everything I have just taken in
\n(and trying to regain normal breathing)
\nI am gazing out the window on a gloriously sunshiny
\nwintry sort of day
\nthe very beginning of March
\nI sit
\nin great gratitude for the beauty of trees
\nheavily blanketed in fresh snow
\ndancing gracefully in the breeze while delicately shedding the covers
\nin a joyous sort of striptease
\nthen stretching feathery limbs to bask in the warm sparkling light
\nonce again,\u00a0 dripping with diamonds\u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

I am watching the clouds sail by, wispy and white
\nacross the bluest of blue skies
\nand how their shapes seem to compliment the tops of the trees
\nas they undress
\ncompletely unfettered by the swoops and swirls of incoming
\nstarlings<\/p>\n

I try to take a few pictures, so as not to lose this beauty
\nbefore it is imprinted on my heart<\/p>\n

I think about the absolute importance of gratitude in life
\nand not missing small glorious things
\nthat are not so common that we should ever
\nnot be
\na-mazed<\/em><\/p>\n

I\u2019m thinking about blessings, thankfulness
\nand
\nconnections
\nI\u2019m thinking about shared grief, compassion
\nempathy
\nand laughter
\nI’m thinking most gratefully about
\nthe fullness of my
\nown boundless
\nheart<\/p>\n

also from the comfort of my chair
\nI am thinking
\nhow pictures would probably be clearer
\nif only,
\none got up
\nfrom time to time<\/p>\n

to clean the glass \u2665<\/p>\n
