The house is quiet when I get up after a pretty glorious lie in
\nalthough signs of life are everywhere
\nno one is .. anywhere
\nnumber one son volunteers at the hospital on Friday mornings,
\nand my husband is busy preparing for a catering
\nso I guess.. as the coffee is made and waiting,\u00a0 he
\nis off shopping
\nthe girls upstairs are still asleep
\nand so this morning, it is only me.. and sometimes
\nthis
\nis
\na necessary thing<\/p>\n
First things first, I pull on some boots and a coat
\nand go out to feed the birds
\nthe moment I open the door, I can hear that lovely little peep
\nand even though I can\u2019t spot you,\u00a0 I know you are near
\nwith the feeders full, as I am still in my pajamas
\nI head back in
\nand sit cozily and contentedly with my coffee and book
\naround me the dogs are snuggled
\nand the cats
\nall curled up,\u00a0 wondrously all of us seem to be breathing in unison
\non the radio the enchanting Julie Nesrallah offers up gorgeous soothing sounds
\nfrom the world\u2019s best in classical music
\nas I read\u2026\u00a0 I float
\nwhen I come to the end of a chapter, I look up from my book
\njust long enough to spot a little downy woodpecker
\ncome to visit
\nit is the female that I call Robert, she is lovely in her gorgeous attire
\nand as I sit watching her on the tree, and then on to the suet cake
\nfor quite some time I am completely absorbed by
\nevery
\nlittle
\ndetail
\nthe stripes in her feathers,\u00a0 the tiny shortness of tail
\ncompact little body
\nsoft white belly
\ndelicate but ever so strong
\nfeet
\nease in her natural
\nbeauty
\nintermittent snow flakes fall
\nbehind me\u2026 \u00a0a symphony
\nand breath
\nI smile and I think to myself,\u00a0 this
\nis perfect peace<\/p>\n
