If you follow me here, you may possibly be aware of my fondness for books,
\nI am almost equally as passionate about documentaries
\nI suppose the obvious thing that relates here
\nis just how very much I love stories
\nstories behind, around,\u00a0 contained..\u00a0 sometimes hidden
\npeople\u2019s stories
\nof how things came to be, of how we
\ncame to be
\nthe other night just as I am about to head off to bed
\nI am caught up by a program about Anna Pavord
\nher home in south west England
\nand her passion for gardening
\nI am hooked as soon as I see the English countryside
\nand the glorious sight of an English garden
\ninstantly I can see myself in it
\nthe sights, the sounds, the smells
\nthe plants, the birds
\nah\u2026\u00a0 take me away
\nor rather\u2026\u00a0 leave me here
\nI move closer to the TV, I watch and I listen,
\ncompletely enthralled as Anna talks about the need for pruning
\nand care
\nand just how very healing her need for this kind of nature
\nis
\nahhhh yes, I think ..\u00a0\u00a0 ah yes\u2026
\nit\u2019s funny,\u00a0 that this is heaven to me, although I am not what you would call
\na very good gardener
\nI find pruning slightly painful,\u00a0 even when I know it to be a necessary evil
\nI cringe when I hear someone speak of ‘ripping things out’\u00a0 and I wish to gather up
\nall discards and un-cared for’s
\nand take them home to love,\u00a0 like abandoned puppies
\nnature… nurture
\nI just like things that
\ngrow
\nthings of beauty and comfort
\nunkempt and unbridled
\nnot forced or contained
\nthings of change and delight
\nas well as the living-ness of a garden
\n(never do I have a wish to feel – done)
\nthat encourages visitors, of the \u2018natural kind\u2019 – \u00a0birds, bees, butterflies, toads, bunnies,
\nyou get the idea
\nall welcome, not to be disturbed
\nI mean, I sometimes envision myself as this kind of gardener
\nthis lovely woman, who looks so natural in this setting
\nwho knows the names of all her plants
\n(where mine are usually called the pink one, and those yellow ones)
\nand knows just who grows best with whom
\nshe also passionately talks about weeding, and this I am not very good at
\nI sort of believe in giving everything its chance to
\nbeautify, in it’s own way..\u00a0 I guess<\/p>\n
