{"id":1992,"date":"2018-04-06T14:52:42","date_gmt":"2018-04-06T18:52:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tamara.tedzplace.ca\/?p=1992"},"modified":"2018-04-06T14:52:42","modified_gmt":"2018-04-06T18:52:42","slug":"a-walking-through-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tamara.tedzplace.ca\/?p=1992","title":{"rendered":"a walking through words&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This morning I\u2019m thinking about words or language<br \/>\nand our use of such<br \/>\nI am reading a book,\u00a0 a work of fiction which is a genre I don\u2019t read quite so often<br \/>\na book that found me<br \/>\nwhich so far has me delighted<br \/>\nand a little enchanted<br \/>\na story about books, about love and life\u2019s complications<br \/>\nthe language of which is lyrical and enticingly descriptive<br \/>\nit has willingly gathered me in<br \/>\nI am deep<br \/>\nin this<br \/>\nand then I come across a word that stops me in my travelling,<br \/>\nthat instantly and rather abruptly throws me out of the story and back<br \/>\ninto my chair<br \/>\na word, that is disappointing in its<br \/>\nvulgarity<br \/>\nand I wonder why with so many other choices we stoop to such<br \/>\ncheap language<br \/>\neasy choices..\u00a0 that somehow instantaneously break<br \/>\nthe spell<br \/>\nthe curtain falls and<br \/>\nthere you are<br \/>\nI don\u2019t as a habit use bad language,\u00a0 I don\u2019t like the sound of it<br \/>\nin speech, in storytelling, in song lyrics, in comedy, movies, art<br \/>\nit is harsh, and cutting and as a lover of words it just sounds to me<br \/>\nlike<br \/>\na lazy choice<br \/>\nI suppose maybe it has its place, often used to make a point<br \/>\nin frustration<br \/>\nbut to me it is not decorative, not sexy nor cool, not hip or especially attractive<br \/>\nthe word (or words) I come across this morning are not even profanities,<br \/>\nor four letter words (although one does indeed have four letters)<br \/>\nthey are just vulgar, distasteful, coarse<br \/>\nI guess it\u2019s maybe because I do have such a love and respect for words<br \/>\nand those who can make the language of letters form together<br \/>\nin such a way, as to be<br \/>\nmagical or meaningful and<br \/>\nmighty<br \/>\nthe taste of them as they swirl on your tongue and slip soothingly<br \/>\ndown one\u2019s throat<br \/>\neasing their way into your blood stream<br \/>\nand dancing just under<br \/>\nyour skin<br \/>\nall while remaining still in linger on the tip<br \/>\nof your tongue<br \/>\nor enchant in a way that has you wishing to wrap yourself up<br \/>\nin their great luxury,\u00a0 comfort and warmth<br \/>\nnot necessarily big, fancy ones that are hard to pronounce<br \/>\nor sickly sweet dripping with honey<br \/>\nbut real, honest and so wonderfully simple as to be recognized<br \/>\nfrom<br \/>\nthe inside<\/p>\n<p>this is not to say that by my little commentary,\u00a0 I am here to judge<br \/>\nI am by no means a prude or for that matter<br \/>\na skilled linguist<br \/>\nreally today,\u00a0 I am just thinking out loud<br \/>\nabout my deep respect for words<br \/>\nhow we use them, our fondness for some<br \/>\nand our choices<br \/>\nthe weight they can hold<br \/>\ntheir power<br \/>\nand also<\/p>\n<p>the wonderful-ness of finding<br \/>\njust<br \/>\nthe<br \/>\nright<br \/>\nones<\/p>\n<p>this then,\u00a0 it would seem becomes<br \/>\nmy quest \u2665<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>\u201cWords are sacred. They deserve respect.
