This little story is kind of long,\u00a0 and it’s going to start with a rant,\u00a0 about my computer
\nbut bear with me, if you will – as I do have a point..<\/p>\n
So I need a computer doctor,\u00a0 badly.\u00a0 When I returned to work after about 20 yrs at home raising my family,\u00a0 I was so happy to receive my first paycheque.\u00a0 I had already decided,\u00a0 I would buy myself a new computer.\u00a0 I don\u2019t know much about the inner workings, but I rely heavily on my \u2018outside\u2019 communications with the world. now,\u00a0 if you are still with me,\u00a0 what I want to say is this ..\u00a0 Who cares? As I have written in an earlier post, I have a very dear friend who is now dealing with the aftermath of a devastating barn fire.\u00a0 Worries of how, when and even if it will be possible to rebuild a life her and her husband have been building for twenty plus years are weighing so heavily on them right now, that each day I am on the look-out for cracks. I cannot not care about this.<\/p>\n The other day in the store after a long day at work, \u00a0my friend is in to purchase more medicine to treat some of her goats that have been badly burned \u2013 but are still alive.\u00a0 In front of her at the check-out a woman is ranting loudly and angrily that the peanut butter she has a rain check for is not on the shelf.\u00a0 This goes on for quite some time,\u00a0 and my friend who now spends most days holding back a vast pool of tears, and is somehow soldiering on through complete mental and physical exhaustion has to turn away from this –\u00a0 as not to confront this woman on the ridiculous magnitude of her f#*** peanut butter problem!!!<\/p>\n Who cares about you,\u00a0 waiting in line behind me?<\/p>\n Someone else I care about has just lost his job.\u00a0 The victim of a \u2018downsizing\u2019 of sorts.\u00a0 A job that he loves and as someone with a brain injury, \u00a0a job where he felt like ..\u00a0 he fit,\u00a0 just right. Who cares about you,\u00a0 you\u2019re interrupting my day.<\/p>\n Who cares?\u00a0 Who cares? I do. I care about you.<\/p>\n That\u2019s it, that\u2019s the end of my rant,\u00a0 or my story, or whatever..\u00a0 that\u2019s what I wanted to say\u00a0 – to you this day,<\/p>\n if you’re still here,\u00a0 (and if you are,\u00a0 I really am grateful that you’re still here) and about kindness<\/p>\n then,\u00a0 take a deep breath This little story is kind of long,\u00a0 and it’s going to start with a rant,\u00a0 about my computer but bear with me, if you will – as I do have a point.. \nOn the advice and guidance of a pretty wonderful friend, I got myself a lovely little laptop and I was thrilled. No more waiting forever for the old dinosaur to boot up, only for boxes to pop-up saying this or that could not update.\u00a0 I pressed power and it was on,\u00a0 ready to go.\u00a0 Amazing!
\n(I would like to insert here:\u00a0 I am not old)<\/em>
\nI love my laptop, purchased with my own money,\u00a0 I start to leave behind my scribbled bits of paper, that are quite soon illegible to even me.\u00a0 \u00a0I cherish it’s convenience,\u00a0 it is a vital connection and I look after it well.\u00a0 Or so I thought.
\nHowever, after some kind of an update,\u00a0 it started dropping my wifi connection frequently.\u00a0 Annoyingly!
\nCausing me to constantly restart to get my connection back.
\nThis proves to be really, really frustrating, especially when I am in the process of writing and\/or editing something I have written. \u00a0Anyway, now it seems to be getting worse and I am forced to restart more often,\u00a0 wasting my valuable time and brilliance (ha! ha!) ,\u00a0 and mostly just causing me to shake an angry fist at my cherished little computer.
\n(and yes I should also insert here, I do have a phone..\u00a0 but I am not there yet on using that tiny screen, and these rather large seeming fingers for these kinds of things ..\u00a0 and again\u00a0 I am not old<\/strong>.)<\/em>
\nTo further illustrate my frustration, let me say as you may well know, \u00a0one of my other loves in life is reading.\u00a0 But you see, when something in a book I am reading takes an unexpected and frustrating turn, or say your bookmark falls out and you lose your page \u2013 you can throw said book!\u00a0 (of course I would never do such a thing ..\u00a0 as books can be delicate creatures)
\nI cannot however,\u00a0 throw my laptop..\u00a0\u00a0 now can I?
\nAnd it’s making me so angry!!!!!
\nSo,\u00a0 I restart, and I restart and I\u2026
\nre \u2026\u00a0 start\u2026<\/p>\n
\nWho cares about my little problem with my little computer?<\/p>\n
\nAnd I so wish there was some way that I could somehow alleviate even the tiniest bit of this weight, and just lay it down..\u00a0\u00a0 somewhere else.. for a while.<\/p>\n
\nA victim of bad timing, and unfortunately to my thinking,\u00a0 someone else\u2019s short sighted-ness, and very vocal rather childish self-absorption.<\/p>\n
\nWho cares if you are currently fighting a health crisis?\u00a0 Who cares if you are mourning the loss of a loved one? Or possibly just facing a loss?\u00a0 Who cares if you are battling addiction, or not yet ready to acknowledge it?\u00a0 Or your unhappiness, who cares?\u00a0 Who cares if you have had to flee a country in conflict, trying just to raise your family, or keep them alive?\u00a0 Who cares if you are being abused, being persecuted, being forced against your will?\u00a0 Who cares if your child is struggling or hurting or missing? Who cares if you are in pain, or alone, or \u2026\u00a0 waiting.
\nWho cares?
\nWho cares about you?<\/p>\n
\nI simply cannot NOT care.<\/p>\n
\njust maybe,
\ntake a pause, right here
\nright now
\nand
\nplease,\u00a0 look outside yourself,<\/p>\n
\ncare<\/p>\n
