What I\u2019m thinking about today is exposure\u2026
\nand the old adage \u2018seen and not heard\u2019
\nor really what seems to suit me more,\u00a0 possibly heard
\nand not so often
\nseen<\/p>\n
on a day in which a quick thought to change a profile picture
\nfrom colour to black and white
\nleaves one feeling somewhat over-exposed
\n(never a fan of cameras aimed in my direction)
\nas comments start to trickle in from
\nkind-hearted friends
\ninstead of a glowing, I feel rather like the curtain has just closed
\nbehind me, and I am left standing on the outside edge
\nof the stage
\nface starting to flush
\nor you know, poised to begin,\u00a0 but the music
\nhasn\u2019t started, isn’t
\nstarting…
\nas I scramble for the gap in the curtain so that I might
\nslip right through
\nthe strange dichotomy of seen\u2026 but not
\nseen
\nor is it look\u2026\u00a0 but not too closely\u2026<\/p>\n
often it is the same for things that I write
\nand share
\nin the thoughts and words that tumble out
\non to a page for public viewing
\nI find myself posting and then quickly I duck back
\nbehind the curtain again
\nbefore anyone realizes
\nit\u2019s
\nme
\nthen I\u2019ll peak briefly out just to see how
\nit\u2019s being
\nreceived
\nif…<\/p>\n
it is not in me to in any way attempt to outshine
\nor show off
\nI do not selfie
\nthat is just not my way
\nI guess, it is the vulnerability of us to offer ourselves up
\nfor inspection
\nnot for lines and cracks (as they are undoubtedly there)
\nseek and ye shall find
\nand not even for judgement or ridicule
\n(although that\u2019s always a \u00a0possible thing)
\nI guess my intention is this,
\nwhether I have offered you a glimpse of myself,
\nor my garden
\nor most often my heart
\nhopefully what you have found is
\nrecognition
\nIn the soft places, in the gentle places
\neven in the
\nimperfect places<\/p>\n
maybe it’s a gentle kind of
\nencouragement
\na nudging
\nin the many ways we allow ourselves to be seen
\nmy hope always, is that we find the courage toward open-hearted
\nkindness
\nfor it is here our true gifts
\nare found
\nand indeed our true beauty<\/p>\n
and when at times we find ourselves feeling a little
\nblinded by the light
\n(even of our own being)
\nsuddenly forgetting our steps
\nwishing the curtains would just
\nclose..<\/p>\n
May we instead find our way within
\nto the most peaceful of spots
\nin the garden
\nwhere in gratitude for great blessings
\nwe are then free<\/p>\n
