\u00a0\u201cif I had been smart\u2026\u00a0 \u201c<br \/>\n(a familiar statement, and so he laughs)<br \/>\nfull to the brim with enthusiasm from the book on my lap<br \/>\n\u201cif I had been smart, I say again, \u00a0I would be a restorer,\u00a0 some sort of historical\u2026 restorer\u201d<br \/>\njust this morning I have finished a book that I am completely in love with<br \/>\n<em><strong>One Writer\u2019s Garden: Eudora Welty\u2019s Home Place<\/strong> by Susan Haltom and Jane Roy Brown<\/em><br \/>\nthis wonderful book combines many of the things that I love<br \/>\npartial biography of the iconic Eudora Welty but mostly a historical record<br \/>\nof her mother Chestina\u2019s garden &#8211; its development, nurturing, importance of a time and place and the subsequent restoration of its true beauty<br \/>\nI was completely enthralled<br \/>\nas I have spoken of often, I love biography and memoir, I love people\u2019s stories<br \/>\nof just how they came to be<br \/>\nI love when a book I am reading leads me to another<br \/>\nbook<br \/>\nwhich in turn sets me on to<br \/>\nanother<br \/>\nbook<br \/>\nI love that<br \/>\nand gardens, and flowers\u2026\u00a0\u00a0 what can I say<br \/>\nthis always is my happy place, my breathing<br \/>\npeace<br \/>\nand a writer who found solace and inspiration in these things<br \/>\nyeah,\u00a0 I get that<br \/>\nand restoration, the looking into, the discovering, the history<br \/>\nthe honour<br \/>\nof giving things back their beauty<br \/>\nwith<br \/>\nlove<br \/>\nand with all too necessary<br \/>\ngentle<br \/>\nkindness<br \/>\nthese indeed are the things that blossom<br \/>\nin me<br \/>\nthat grab my spirit, shake the dust from my wings<br \/>\nand set me on my<br \/>\njourney<br \/>\nof inspiration<\/p>\n<p>which truth be told, \u00a0means I am sat at my computer<br \/>\nmadly researching writers, gardens and more books<br \/>\nbut also this leads me to a wander through my own garden<br \/>\nupon which I always look with love and gratitude<br \/>\nat the wonder, beauty and magnificence<br \/>\nof simple things<br \/>\nto thinking of my own grandmother and her gardens<br \/>\nthe magic of which always drew one in as a child<br \/>\nand also, as always for me<br \/>\nto an offering<br \/>\nof<br \/>\ngreat gratitude<\/p>\n<p>and so I think to myself,<br \/>\nyes,\u00a0 If I had been smart ..<br \/>\nI would be<br \/>\na<br \/>\nRestorer<\/p>\n<p>quite possibly of just these things:<br \/>\nlove, \u00a0kindness<br \/>\nand<br \/>\nsimplicity<\/p>\n<p>beauty and<br \/>\nwonder<\/p>\n<p>peace<br \/>\nand great<br \/>\ngratitude<\/p>\n<p>simple things<\/p>\n<p>complete in the restoration<br \/>\nof<br \/>\nthe soul\u00a0 \u2665<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This morning I say to my love, as he comes in &#8211;
