and I find myself grappling with
\nhow to not be consumed by the world
\nwith the loud and the hostile
\ninhospitable, selfish and cruel
\nwith the power hungry and the greed
\nwith the sweep it under the rug and the walk upon
\nwith the how many of us have been hurt, by the how many
\nof you
\nwith the right to speak up and the unwillingness
\nto listen
\nand when the time comes when you have chosen or may have been forced
\nto tell your own story
\nwhom do you speak of or
\nto
\nwith the rights and the wrongs
\nand the wrong
\nand
\nthe
\nwrong\u2026<\/p>\n
when a ground swell of solidarity starts to gather you in
\nand you feel empowered and angry
\nsolid and strong
\nbut then also
\nkind of
\nsad<\/p>\n
and again we are here
\ngrappling with
\nhow not to be consumed\u2026
\nby the world<\/p>\n
then,\u00a0 a message from friend
\nin need of real strength
\nstops time and all circumstance
\n(and I go inside)<\/p>\n
while I sit to read, \u00a0my husband swears, and I
\nsomehow develop a nasty crick in my neck
\nnot even sure where it came from
\nthis nagging
\npain
\npulled muscle from work? slept awkward on my pillow?
\nor, I think to myself,\u00a0 perhaps now
\nI am holding
\nsomeone else\u2019s pain
\nnot as a detriment to me,\u00a0 but more
\nin a helpless sort of effort to relieve
\nyou\u2026<\/p>\n
and again we are here
\ngrappling\u2026<\/p>\n
in an effort to not be consumed
\nby things beyond my control
\nall I have
\nis a return to love
\nto loving kindness
\nand so I begin,<\/p>\n
