There is some quote that I have read, it says something about
\nnot letting the world harden
\nyour heart
\nsometimes situations and the actions of others can make it
\nso very hard
\nfrustrated, I can feel myself badly wanting
\nto retreat,
\nto withdraw further
\nin
\nI suppose this is when I know,\u00a0 I have been absorbing
\nfar too much
\njust what is it I am carrying, \u00a0(most often not even mine)
\ncausing the strain in my shoulders
\nand neck
\nthe set tightness of my jaw<\/p>\n

deeply inhaling, I know it is time
\nto set the weight of this
\ndown<\/p>\n

when I go in search of that particular quote,
\nwhat \u00a0instead comes to find me
\nis this<\/p>\n

and there it is, reminding me,
\nI know well
\nhow to take the layers of weariness

I rise with the sun, step out to feed the birds
\nfully filling my lungs with cool fresh air
\nin the bathroom a rainbow appears on the floor
\n(sun shining through shampoo bottles, I think..
\nbut later disappears)
\nsomeone new at the suet,\u00a0 a Red-Bellied Woodpecker no less
\nwhat a beaut!
\nout for a walk in sunshine with my love
\nhand to hold\u00a0\u00a0 (gratefully so)
\na brief stop in to the second-hand shop to
\nlook for treasures
\nidly browsing, a picture catches my eye
\nframed in the softest of pink, on it I read
\n\u00a0 \u00a0Strength and Balance takes practice<\/span><\/em> \u2026<\/span><\/span><\/strong>
\nand I let this little morsel
\ngently work its way through my skin
\nas quietly, \u00a0I continue to
\nwander
\npick up a new cup for my tea
\n(having, the other night, \u00a0knocked the handle off the last one)
\nand of course, a couple of books
\none of which, I later find
\nincludes a book mark,\u00a0 (a\u00a0 favourite thing to discover tucked inside)
\nand a lovely written inscription
\nfrom someone kind<\/p>\n

later
\nwhile my husband readies himself for work
\nI put the kettle on, and go out with my camera
\nand new seed for the birds
\nin the gardens I come across
\nthe very first sighting
\nof
\nlittle green sprouts
\nthe surest, loveliest, mightiest little signs
\nof hope
\nto be found<\/p>\n

and so it is here I decide
\nto leave that heavy cloak of unwanted bother
\nin the snow
\nand just…\u00a0 tread lightly<\/p>\n

as gladly on
