Yesterday morning begins
with thinking about someone I am most grateful for
an aunt
and how I might tell her
just because
this
is what I\u2019m thinking today
(wondering if
she might think this weird)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the afternoon comes with attending
an online funeral stream
with my brother-in-law for company
even though he is an ocean away
because
this
is how we do it now
witness, attend,
support
from a distance
while really cherishing the great value
of
hugs
we cannot give<\/p>\n\n\n\n
later a chat with my mother-in-law
who this week will turn ninety-four!
who has called to say Thank you
that we were able to make sure she was
connected
to say good-bye to her brother
and the great blessing of this call, is that
no matter the circumstance
and the current enforced distancing
she and I will inevitably end up giggling
together
several times in conversation
which indeed proves to
be
a balm for both our spirits
we both moan a little about our aches
and then simply get on with this business
of
getting
on<\/p>\n\n\n\n
has me thinking you know, about love
and where we might be
without it<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and just how important it is
to tell someone
how much<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the skies prove quite dreary today,
but a brief parting of cloud
and the sun breaks through
I grab my camera, and take my walk
through familiar paths
a light breeze brushes droplets from branches
in a gentle sort of
anointing
I take in the damp sogginess of the garden
as a kind of joy
for the nourishing
wander for a bit, talking to friends
checking on the fish
then as I am again nearing the house,
I realize
it\u2019s been softly raining on me
this
whole
