What if today
\nwe agreed,
\nto temporarily suspend all
\nsweetness and
\nlight<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to instead spend the day
\nin quiet contemplation of failing
\nto
\nsave the world
\nmuch less
\nyourself<\/p>\n\n\n\n

from despair<\/p>\n\n\n\n

what if too, we thought nothing
\nof asking everyone else
\nto just go away
\ncancel all intended plans
\nfor
\na little while
\nleave one
\nbe<\/p>\n\n\n\n

except of course for me and the dogs <\/p>\n\n\n\n

what if you saw yourself reflected
\nagain in
\nthe late summer flowers
\nwhose petals have all but curled in on themselves
\nslightly battered and browned
\na shielding of sorts
\nwith no real need to feel
\nthe least bit beautiful or
\nbrave<\/p>\n\n\n\n

what if we suspend for a moment
\nany thoughts of feeling joyous and
\ncongenial
\nand instead have a grand sort of wallow
\nin a mild bit of misery<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but kept mostly to
yourself
(because, how ridiculous)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

what if you blundered through your
\nwalk of gratitude
\nbristled by someone\u2019s crass language and flip judgement
\nof another, believing themselves witty and
\nhip
\nresisting the futile urge to fire back
\nin response
\nbecause this would make me<\/p>\n\n\n\n

what\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

what if you took your moment to
\ngrumble about being taken for granted
\nand swirled this bit of turmoil in your stomach
\nfor a while
\ntried
\npiecing together foreign languages
\nthat forget sometimes
\nto
\nnotice<\/p>\n\n\n\n

what if then, you kept the radio on
\nlow
\nyou walked, and walked
\nwatched the passing clouds for signs
\nof
\nlove
\nand gave yourself permission
\nto brood<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018cause even in the event
you find that dragon\u2019s lair
and you drag yourself back into the deepest, darkest
far corner
to
sit
