Waking early with the words
do not go back to sleep filtering in\u00a0\u00a0
like bits of dappled light\u00a0
subtle yet kindly\u00a0
persistent\u00a0

soft steps through a slumbering house
resonate
as a grateful sigh

warm water and lemon while I wait on the coffee\u00a0
a book\u00a0\u00a0
on top of a book, on top of\u00a0\u00a0
a book\u00a0
sits patiently by the window\u00a0
holding my place\u00a0
\u00a0
husband then comes to join\u00a0
read some, chat some, laugh much\u00a0
then he suggests a walk\u00a0
outside frosty and crisp\u00a0
sidewalks clear\u00a0
and for the most part, streets\u00a0
just for us\u00a0
\u00a0
this morning, this little bit of the world\u00a0
speaks to me\u00a0\u00a0
of love, of peace, and of kindness\u00a0
\u00a0
a brief check-in with the \u2018outside\u2019 world\u00a0
speaks more of conspiracy theories, and the further\u00a0
degradation of intelligent living\u00a0
where all opinions have a right to be heard\u00a0
and yet some\u00a0
have a need to just be right\u00a0
\u00a0
where a friend echoes my thoughts exactly\u00a0\u00a0
of\u00a0withdrawing once again\u00a0\u00a0
from all the falsehoods and ugliness\u00a0
stick my nose in some print\u00a0
or the sky\u00a0
just let you pick up your soap box\u00a0\u00a0
find somewhere else to peddle\u00a0
the snake-oil\u00a0
\u00a0
selfishly don\u2019t mind a bit\u00a0
being told to stay\u00a0\u00a0
home\u00a0
stay in, stay\u00a0
safe\u00a0
\u00a0
instead, think I\u2019ll wander through some books, and some art\u00a0
listen to Mary Chapin Carpenter sing\u00a0\u00a0
this morning\u00a0
a \u2018Song from home\u2019 and to smile just as sweetly\u00a0
in the end as she does\u00a0
every Sunday\u00a0
look at some frosty gardens, some vintage fashions\u00a0
maybe some\u00a0
chickens\u00a0
then tend to the laundry, do some\u00a0
baking\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
shake a little frost
off my wings
think about where
it would be best to send out
some love <\/p>\n\n\n\n
and maybe then
just a little more
light. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
