Last night, shaken awake by a wild ruckus 
down the street 
much yelling and screaming 
that went on into the wee, wee hours 
finally and thankfully 
attended to  
by police  
 
this morning, the dog  
will not allow me 
to sleep in 
so I am up…  like a bear 
and I tell my husband that I might go down 
and bang on some doors 
see if I can\u2019t disrupt the slumbers 
of someone else 
see just 
how they might 
like  
it <\/p>\n\n\n\n

instead, I opt for coffee and a quiet read
in the garden, with my love
and later\u00a0
to once again tell my troubles\u00a0
to the toads\u00a0
who appear most willing\u00a0
to\u00a0\u00a0
listen\u00a0
while the chipmunk busily runs\u00a0
just under my feet, gathering seeds for his supper\u00a0
cheeks much too full\u00a0
to engage
in conversation\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

my friends and I discuss the merits
of soaking up the sun\u00a0
amongst cascades of green
by\u00a0\u00a0
the\u00a0\u00a0
pool\u00a0
the glorious glisten of skin\u00a0
delicately decorated by\u00a0
beads of\u00a0\u00a0
sweat\u00a0
\u00a0
and too, to find\u00a0
that today is the day\u00a0
the roses begin blooming\u00a0
and the asters… how wonderful!
\u00a0
the wren begins to add much to the conversation\u00a0\u00a0
when a large helicopter\u00a0
flies overhead\u00a0
distracting all for a few minutes of\u00a0\u00a0
awe
at the rather large beast
then we turn our keen gaze\u00a0
to the clouds\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

today I have been transplanting \u00a0
orphans\u00a0
turned out on the street (or of their pots anyway)
by someone else
just slightly worse for wear, but ever so gladly
gathered up here
I assure them, despite last night\u2019s distractions
that this\u00a0
is of course, the perfect spot\u00a0
to put down\u00a0
some\u00a0\u00a0
roots
as you will find kindness here
and I very rarely, if ever
abandon
\u00a0
again\u00a0the wren has just so much\u00a0
she would like to tell\u00a0\u00a0
and I notice the audience at the pond\u00a0
has grown\u00a0\u00a0
large\u00a0
\u00a0
so,
having the good graces\u00a0\u00a0
to be so polite\u00a0
we stretch ourselves out\u00a0
thin enough\u00a0\u00a0
to feel the breeze\u00a0

and we\u00a0\u00a0
gently\u00a0
close our eyes\u00a0\u00a0
\u00a0
just\u00a0
to listen \u2665<\/p>\n\n\n\n
