We often have, my dear husband and I\u00a0
a difference of opinion\u00a0
in the garden\u00a0
and thank goodness really,\u00a0
as how boring would we be otherwise\u00a0
I have a great affection for the things that roam\u00a0
rather\u00a0
freely\u00a0
self-seed, grow up and through\u00a0
I happen to like things that grow\u00a0
together\u00a0
that support and enhance each other’s\u00a0
natural existence and\u00a0
beauty,\u00a0\u00a0
don\u2019t really like bare, open spaces\u00a0
as you well know, I like kindness, I like love\u00a0
I also like a peaceful, undisturbed sort of\u00a0\u00a0
landscape, and he\u00a0
thankfully, to some extent\u00a0
does as well\u00a0
we tend to work out any differences\u00a0\u00a0
with\u00a0\u00a0
compromise for the most part\u00a0
where he will rip things out while (he thinks) I am not looking\u00a0
and I will…\u00a0 on occasion\u00a0
adapt to his ideas of the necessity of\u00a0\u00a0
cutting things back and
letting go
allows for a pretty good partnership, I think <\/p>\n\n\n\n
What I like most about the flowers and my gardens\u00a0
I suppose,\u00a0
is the complete lack of judgement\u00a0
you will find\u00a0\u00a0
here\u00a0
there is no better, or best\u00a0
no ideas of impossible perfection\u00a0
no real\u00a0\u00a0
favourites\u00a0
nor any wish to control\u00a0
you will see holes chewed in leaves\u00a0
stems that have curled\u00a0
apples with\u00a0\u00a0
spots\u00a0
makes them no less sweet to those that\u00a0
wish to gather\u00a0
quite rarely do we ward off any pests\u00a0
(although occasionally you might hear me\u00a0
speaking rather harshly to the Japanese beetles through gritted teeth)\u00a0
instead, often we marvel at just how\u00a0
things adapt, recover, overcome\u00a0
nature\u2019s great strength, when given\u00a0\u00a0
half a chance\u00a0
nor does the wildness of my\u00a0small patch\u00a0
look scornfully at the\u00a0neighbour\u2019s\u00a0
much more\u00a0
manicured bit of loveliness\u00a0
never would I wish us to all be\u00a0\u00a0
exactly the same\u00a0
\u00a0
as people, we are not always\u00a0
so kind\u00a0
we do like our opinions\u00a0
our comparisons, and our judgements\u00a0
we think we know\u00a0
best\u00a0
always I wonder, how this\u00a0
serves
to cast judgement on another\u00a0
to what\u00a0\u00a0
gains\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
never would I expect the phlox
to become more like
a black-eyed susan, or the rose
like a dandelion, just because
they have grown
together for years
each adorned by their own particular
colour, nature, sense of
dress <\/p>\n\n\n\n
there is that thing, you know\u00a0
about a flower\u00a0
being brave enough\u00a0
to open itself to the world
at all
not knowing whether it will be\u00a0
met by\u00a0\u00a0
the gentleness of a bright sky shining\u00a0
or something much more\u00a0
forbidding\u00a0
waiting to cast its shadow\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
yet wherever it finds itself
it opens
still
na\u00efve or just trusting I guess,
in the
merciful compassion
of those
that choose the path
of graciously
causing no
harm <\/p>\n\n\n\n
