I carry words in my pocket
like love and
delight
like wonder and
like
grace
find it quite comforting to
always know, exactly <\/p>\n\n\n\n
where to find them <\/p>\n\n\n\n
and like gratitude,
now that one slips into my palm
with a smooth silkiness that always feels as if it was meant
to stay on my skin
and delicious, that\u2019s one I know well too
but there are, other words in there as well
and days when I am sure
which one I have drawn, without even looking
a rough, sort of abrasive feel to its surface
and colours I can tell just by touch
are not the softness of pastels
but rather a darker shade of grey
or a fierce rusty red
words like anxiety, anxiousness
and
fear
sometimes uncertain, inhospitable
brutish and
gloom
days I think to just crumple them up
and toss them away
like a wrapper in the street
wonder about their biodegradability
what the worms might turn them
into
instead <\/p>\n\n\n\n
somehow though, as bit of a collector\u00a0
it just wouldn\u2019t feel right\u00a0
to throw some of them away, you know\u00a0
sure I\u2019d always feel like something \u00a0
was \u00a0
missing\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
so, I just keep filling it up\u00a0
my pocket full of words\u00a0
add in a few more sparkly ones\u00a0
like gorgeous and\u00a0
irresistible\u00a0
try to keep track of the important ones\u00a0
like notice, ordinary\u00a0
gentleness and \u00a0
kind\u00a0
inquisitive, courageous, honest and \u00a0
open\u00a0
\u00a0
I try to shuffle them up,\u00a0
and turn them over\u00a0
from time to time, make them feel a bit\u00a0
familiar\u00a0in my hand
reassure myself of the ones that matter\u00a0
most\u00a0
\u00a0
then, when those prickly ones\u00a0
reappear (as they always manage to do)\u00a0
I just keep my hand in my pocket\u00a0
hold them for a while, no need to shove them down\u00a0
or throw then out\u00a0
I run them through my fingers, see if I can\u2019t\u00a0
smooth off a bit of the rough\u00a0
\u00a0
make those sharper ones feel more \u00a0
tender\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
