“what light through yonder window breaks”<\/em><\/p>\n

the sun is streaming in through my window
\nsuddenly splashing my face with glorious light
\nI am bathed in gold , pink \u00a0and a warm warm red<\/p>\n

over the garage the branch of a pine tree
\nis playfully waving to me
\nit’s long delicate needles bending
\nin a curious game of hide n seek
\nthe wind is roaring like the sea
\nand the clouds are sailing<\/p>\n

i sit this morning
\nthe fingers of my right hand are once again
\nbarely able to move
\nmy hands, wrists and arms are stiff
\nand I am in ache<\/p>\n

the awkward turning of the pages of my book
\nseem to be all the weight
\nI can manage
\nand so begins my day off
\nin gratitude still
\nfor a day of rest
\nI sit<\/p>\n

my husband bargains with me
\nchallenges me, cajoles me
\ninto returning to my yoga
\ninvoking my guilty-as-charged smile
\nmy beleaguered tendons, joints and I know
\njust how to soothe
\nwith ease
\nand regain less painful movement
\nwithout the supposed benefits of my anti-inflammatory
\nwhich I have once again
\nwillingly
\nneglected<\/p>\n

it is to begin …<\/p>\n

to begin<\/p>\n

it seems to me
\nit is much the same with love<\/p>\n

how does one open one’s heart
\nallow one’s heart
\nshare
\none’s heart<\/p>\n

feel the joyful flow of love
\ngiving and receiving
\ntrusting
\nand embracing<\/p>\n

it is not by keeping things silent. guarded
\nand untouched
\nit is not by keeping things safe
\nclosed off
\nand unavailable
\nthis to me is a shutting out
\nof the sun
\nto blocking ones joy
\nin an effort to avoid
\npain
\nand all of this
\ndoes little to keep one
\nsafe
\ninstead it merely leads one’s heart
\nto stiffening
\nto brittle, to crooked-ness
\nand to ache<\/p>\n

it takes movement
\ngentle
\nand kind
\nand opening
\nand offering<\/p>\n

and allowing<\/p>\n

it takes ease
\nand flow<\/p>\n

it takes breathing in
\nand letting go<\/p>\n

and so it begins
\nwith what I know
\nslowly, gently
\nlovingly<\/p>\n

with the sun on my skin
\nclosing my eyes
\nI begin
\nagain<\/p>\n
