Snow again is coming down
\nand piling up
\nand even though it is my day off
\nand I am once again nursing a very sore hand
\nand arm
\nmy husband has not left me enough coffee
\nto warrant just sitting here
\nand watching it fall
\nfrown ..
\nso I bundle up
\nhat pulled down low
\nscarf up to my eyes
\nnot that it is so terribly cold
\nbut that I should spare the neighbourhood
\nthe sight
\nof my ‘natural beauty’ in the morning
\nnot sure what the dress code is to
\nshoveling in the sunshine
\nbut in over sized snow pants and my husband’s big boots
\nI am sure I look fabulous
\nespecially with pajamas underneath
\nwhen I am more than half way through
\nmy husband returns, and says not to bother
\nwith any more
\nhe’ll just drive over it
\nharrumph …
\nHe does not gather me up in a grand embrace
\nas we fall laughing and make mad passionate ..
\nsnow angels.
\nNo.
\nHe bustles in, grumbling about the shower not being free
\nand his shirt needs ironing, and he has to get to work.
\nBut the dog needs food
\nand seeing that he is a Newfoundland
\na rather large boy
\nthe danger of not feeding him is that one of the children may need to be sacrificed
\nSo grizzling all the way
\noff he goes to the store for milk, and dog food
\nwhile I iron his shirt.
\nTrue, he has just gotten back from four hours on the road picking up our son
\nbut apparently a slightly disheveled wife in a large man’s shirt and flannel pajama pants
\nisn’t endearing enough to warrant wine and roses
\nthis morning<\/p>\n
We are moving at a different pace today
\nI am the tortoise
\nand he
\nis the hare
\nhe is rushing
\nand I
\nam still
\nsigh …<\/p>\n
then,
\nhe comes down, fresh from the shower
\nbeautiful crisp shirt
\nwinningly handsome in his suit
\nand I fix his collar
\nand straighten his tie
\nand he kisses me<\/p>\n
and magically
\nthis too
