In honour of a friend today and with Father’s Day approaching, as I know he was a Very Proud Dad – to you Cowboy

When news trickles through that someone is gone..
\nthat a friend has left the landscape of your ‘formative years’
\nSomeone whose presence was felt at beaches and gravel pits
\nat ringers and parties
\nof teenage angst and carefree forevers
\nit sits in your head and in your heart
\nby way of a dull ache
\nmaybe you haven’t heard correctly
\nwe’re all still so young, so much road ahead..
\nit’s not right, it sits awkwardly in your throat,
\nand just behind your eyes..
\nit makes thoughts swirl and your stomach flip
\nit feels heavy and cumbersome<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\nbut
\nI don’t want this for you, my friend
\nmy thoughts of you are not heavy,
\nor awkward, or sorrowful
\nmy thoughts of you
\nare of a wonderful sideways grin
\nand an unmistakable laugh
\na twinkle in the eye
\na bit of devilish charm
\nI can’t actually picture you any other way
\nthat is the image that stays with me
\nthat’s the one to hold on to
\nthat’s the you for me,
\nyou blessed the journey for many of us
\nwith that smile,
\nthat laugh
\nthat twinkle
\nand we will remember you
\njust as you are,
