Even before I wake
\nthere it is
\nthe all too familiar
\npain<\/p>\n
it hurts to lift the blanket
\nit hurts to lift my coffee cup
\neven now
\nit aches as I press the scroll
\non my keyboard<\/p>\n
yet still
\nI lift the blankets
\nI continue to scroll
\nI reach for my coffee<\/p>\n
one would think
\nI could use the other hand
\nseems so simple, really<\/p>\n
but this is not my natural state<\/p>\n
my table is on the right
\nmy books are on the right
\nmy coffee
\nis on the right<\/p>\n
and so I reach<\/p>\n
because I believe
\nto not move, would be
\nto take the risk
\nof never being moved<\/p>\n
even with the window closed
\nI hear her little peep
\nawkwardly
\nsweeping the hair from my eyes
\nI see Robert, my lovely downy woodpecker
\n(she’s quite ok with her name now)
\nit looks as though
\nshe’s arrived alone this morning
\nfollowed just after by Mrs. Cardinal,
\ncome to tap at the window, \u00a0without fail<\/p>\n
seems us girls are sticking together
\ntoday
\nmates busy making their way
\nin the world
\nbright greetings and a brief bit of chit chat
\nthen each of us must get on
\nthings to be done
\nlaundry day<\/p>\n
and so I reach<\/p>\n
someone very dear to me
\ndrops by for a visit
\ntogether we find ourselves
\nvery much still grappling
\nthrough a very real and lingering
\ngrief
\nhe, \u00a0even more so than I
\na chair left unoccupied here
\non this visit
\nand we both, at times still struggle with
\nthis emptiness<\/p>\n
fortunate, \u00a0we can recognize each other
\nin this
\nso we shed tears
\nand we tell stories
\nand yes, we laugh
\nwe comfort<\/p>\n
and we reach<\/p>\n
this very much, \u00a0is my natural state<\/p>\n
I sit now with my cup of tea
\nand I think to myself
\nthere you have it, really<\/p>\n
so it is with Love<\/p>\n
if we are
\ntoo stubborn
\ntoo selfish
\ntoo
\nin pain<\/p>\n
if we somehow fail to ever
\nbe moved<\/p>\n
if one does not
\nreach<\/p>\n
we may never
\ntouch<\/p>\n
