Past the small window on the stairs
always, I peek out
to check on a nest tucked cozily in
the juniper
not easily seen from outside
but just a perfect, safe spot for viewing
from
inside the house<\/p>\n\n\n\n

built by a robin
originally holding lovely blue eggs
and then tiny pink babies
until
it was violently raided
by the starlings
in a seemingly heartless version of
turf wars<\/p>\n\n\n\n

sadly it sat empty for the rest of that spring
summer, fall
and winter

bandied about through some wicked, windy storms
there wasn\u2019t much left of it to call
a
nest<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but early this spring, a lovely young morning dove
moved in
and every day, whether going up or
coming down
I look out, to see if she
is
at home<\/p>\n\n\n\n

until one day,
she was gone
and I wasn\u2019t sure, if she had
given up hope, or if I had
just missed
the small miracles, somehow<\/p>\n\n\n\n

still, I kept a heart light on<\/p>\n\n\n\n

about a week ago, as I passed by
there sat
a lovely young morning dove
perched again
on the remnants
of the
nest<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and there she sat,
and sat
morning, noon and night<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday afternoon,
in the garden, I take a few photos
of a lovely young dove
up high in the branches
admiring her graceful long neck
and later
coming down the stairs, notice my new neighbour
is not
on the nest<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but in that spot, just outside my window
tucked cozily
in
the juniper

two lovely, barely feathery little bits
of fluff
peeking out<\/p>\n\n\n\n

this
is why we are called to
mindful awareness<\/p>\n\n\n\n

how many times, I will go
up
and I will come down
in a day
every day<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but so much joy
contained in these small miracles<\/p>\n\n\n\n

would have been a shame
to have missed<\/p>\n\n\n\n

welcome
tiny wonders
of
life <\/p>\n\n\n\n

and may life
treat you kind \u2665<\/p>\n\n\n\n
