This morning lovely husband is
up early, wee hours one might say,
and I
half-consciously listen
for his going
in the darkness he comes quietly
and bends, to kiss me good-byes
and
back to sleep
in kindness<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the dog lifts the blankets with his snout
snuggles in
to the vacant spot beside me
in our bed
warm,
comforting
presence
lulls<\/p>\n\n\n\n
at coffee I sit in his chair
so our pup can sit cozily at my feet
as he does my husband\u2019s<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the day begins, grey and damp
as predicted
and I am relishing a quiet morning
with time to sit
and devour another book by Kate Bowler
whom I\u2019ve decided for various reasons
I should probably
be friends
with<\/p>\n\n\n\n
my husband\u2019s chair sits
opposite mine
as one would expect
and periodically I gaze out the window
from here
a different perspective than usual
the front garden sways<\/p>\n\n\n\n
where he will sometimes complain that he
can no longer see the road
I will gather in the comfort of bushes, vines
and plants that curl in
around the almost hidden
gate<\/p>\n\n\n\n
through a window of greenery
I watch the goldenrod waving in the breeze
and the faces of red sunflowers peeking around
the smoke bush
with each gust
and I am smiling<\/p>\n\n\n\n
September\u2019s return
kids are back in school
and fall
feels to be
peeking round the corner<\/p>\n\n\n\n

just the most wonderful place
to be<\/p>\n\n\n\n
let it touch you,
snuggle up close to you
let it peek at you, from behind the smoke bush
maybe let it move through you
like the dulcet tones of Mr. Barry White
(come on, you knew it was coming\u2026) <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
the very least you can do,
send it out in to the world
where my hope
is<\/p>\n\n\n\n
has the good sense
to come back around<\/p>\n\n\n\n
