{"id":5137,"date":"2025-07-06T15:54:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T19:54:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tamara.tedzplace.ca\/?p=5137"},"modified":"2025-07-06T15:54:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T19:54:09","slug":"in-the-high-heat-of-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tamara.tedzplace.ca\/?p=5137","title":{"rendered":"in the high heat of summer&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In the high heat of summer days<br>which I absolutely<br>love<br>days in which it is<br>vital<br>that you<br>sit<br>for a time, and give thanks<br>for a breeze<br>and the intermittent coverage of passing<br>clouds<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>where the soft coo of the dove<br>seems to suit<br>the<br>scorch<br>days where one would expect to hear<br>the loud rattling call of a cicada<br>too soon possibly, (*something to look up)<br>as none can be heard<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>in the garden this morning, I am accompanied by<br>what I think to be a Giant Black Wasp<br>who comes to rest on the chair opposite mine<br>I haven\u2019t had a good look at his body, which would be<br>distinctive of a wasp like shape<br>but he certainly is very large, and black<br>with some small bit of red on his side<br>we have a great conversation about the heat, where he<br>like me, seems to like to talk<br>with his hands<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will tell you here, if you happen to have followed me much<br>my camera is once again\u2026\u00a0 on the blink<br>quite possibly a shutter thing again<br>(i know so little)<br>as everything tends to go dark when pressed<br>so I have been relying on my phone<br>which, I will say,<br>(no offense to my trusty companion)<br>is just not the same<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>never does this hamper my wandering, really<br>or my paying close attention to<br>light<br>suppose all it really does, is increase<br>my constant babbling in astonishment<br>to<br>myself<br>and most times I find myself<br>quite good company<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the gardens are looking full and lovely,<br>although with the drastic heat, most<br>just a little wilt-y<br>well, <br>in the front anyway<br>all the rest have been fully trampled and<br>greatly sampled<br>by our rather rambunctious pup<br>who has taken to flopping down on,<br>or simply ripping heads off<br>anything close by that might appear<br>in anyway<br>playful<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>last night we watched fireflies, and the pups<br>found a June bug to toss around<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was thrilled yesterday to see a large helicopter size<br>dragon fly return to the garden<br>how very lovely it is to have the big pond <br>restored to its former glory<br>each time I step outside, it is always my first stop<br>I tell the fish, just how happy I am to see them<br>check in with the tadpoles<br>watch for the boatmen<br>and the water beetle<br>my great friends the toads, are busy keeping cool<br>in the shadows, avoiding the very hot sun<br>and who can blame them<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>over-joyed as well with the resiliency of the wisteria<br>last fall we had to cut it down to its base<br>to replace a crumbling arbour that held it up<br>and early spring I watched closely, waiting for sights of sprouts<br>of any kind<br>hoping against hope, that it had<br>survived<br>now here I sit, admiring its wonderful weaving<br>mastery<br>as it grows again, wildly wrapping each tendril<br>with more of its own<br>supporting itself with its own greatness<br>until it has reached the point<br>of<br>rest<br><br>sky above<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have recently started three books, that are so far<br>not keeping me in<br>(very unlike me, I will say)<br>and this week, watched another brilliant documentary called Arctic Blue<br>with Peter Mansbridge<br>about the melting ice in the Northwest Passage and<br>how this is affecting the people that live there<br>Inuit people who were relocated farther north, from their own homes<br>by the Canadian government to aid in their Arctic &#8216;claim&#8217;<br>of course told they could return home,<br>yet<br>never followed through on<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>as a fellow human, (and again witness to &#8220;neighbours&#8221; to the south)<br>I certainly am not blind to<br>the brutality of greed, power and the<br>need<br>to control<br>but I am constantly, bafflingly<br>amazed<br>at those actual individuals who are willing<br>to carry out<br>these<br>continuing, astonishing<br>blatantly inhumane<br>acts<br>of unspeakable cruelty<br>again, again and<br>again<br><br>while here at home<br>in the safety and comfort<br>of my own surroundings<br>I can even begin to complain<br>about the price<br>of<br>groceries<br><br>this week,<br>lovely husband is amping up for his busiest time<br>of the busy<br>while I \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>try to keep my head above water,<br>soften my jaw<br>lower<br>my<br>shoulders<br><br>and gently remind myself<br>for a time<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>to lay down<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>the<br>weight<br>of the world \u2665<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThere may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest.&#8221;<br>~ Elie Wiesel, writer, Nobel laureate (b. 1928)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the high heat of summer dayswhich I absolutelylovedays in which it isvitalthat yousitfor a time, and give thanksfor a breezeand the intermittent coverage of passingclouds where the soft coo of the doveseems to suitthescorchdays where one would expect to&hellip;
