When first I step out, the air
smells
a most comforting scent, of hot summer air
and\u2026
the lake
think this to be a memory scent
from my childhood
and my children\u2019s childhood,
as I don\u2019t live by a lake
but certainly spent many, many summers
there
it\u2019s a beautiful sort of scent
and I love it, as a morning scent
I close my eyes and
breathe in
deep<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the air this morning is again
quite humid
and the closest I come to the water
of course, is our pond
where instead of a gentle rock of the waves
I appreciate almost as much,
the stillness<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a few steps further, and I am
under
the most gorgeous blue sky
full of clouds
the puffy cotton ball kind
that look to form a very soft and comforting
blanket
of
care<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I can tell you, I love this

looking up from here, in the centre
of the garden
everything is wide open
the sky is vast and it looks\u2026
to go on
forever<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(now that\u2019s my kind of comfort)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

while the dogs play at my feet
I stretch myself up,
pull down a few wisps of cloud
fill both hands to
full
and wrap myself
in
kindness<\/p>\n\n\n\n

words are swirling
a bit like birds in a cartoon
having hit one\u2019s head
yet I hesitate to get them down

how affection feels
when it comes at precisely
the right time<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and where to report it
when it is
sorely
lacking<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and so,
what is it… makes conversations
so
hard<\/p>\n\n\n\n

mid-morning while I am sitting
a lovely hummingbird comes to light
at the flowers above my head

a little later,
beside me, I bring into focus
the first monarch, I have seen
yet this season
on the joe pye weed
with no camera at hand, instead
I
sit
and
just
watch<\/p>\n\n\n\n

while I am reading
the loud clear call of the cicada
I close my eyes and
smile wide\u2026
there you are<\/p>\n\n\n\n

a pretty large bumble
lands on my foot and walks
across my toes
lingers for a bit, until
the grey moves in
and
drops of rain begin
to appear
on my book<\/p>\n\n\n\n

late in the day,
number two son stops in
for a visit
topping off a beautiful day<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and I think just now
to
sit for a time, and
to count

each simple blessing
of
comfort<\/p>\n\n\n\n

in a day <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wish you well my friends
and all the great comforts
of love<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to surround you \u2665<\/p>\n\n\n\n
