Friday morning
mid-August, blue skies and
sunshine
of course, you will know where
to
find
me
the loveliest temperatures today
not too hot, just
absolutely beautiful<\/p>\n\n\n\n
outside first thing, I am met
by the all familiar hum
that will render one quite still
the vibration of wings
rapidly
beating
just beside me
a gorgeous little hummingbird
comes to the feeder
never will one tire, of the absolute
astonishment
of
this<\/p>\n\n\n\n
coffee for two, all too quickly
for my liking
becomes
one
before he dashes out to teach some lessons
I tell him about the praying mantis
that not only does the male
literally lose his head
for a lady
but, just this morning I have learned
that she will bite his head off
during copulation, that can last up to six hours
and she will continue snacking on her mate
until
they are through
and isn\u2019t that, a fascinating little fact<\/p>\n\n\n\n
in the garden, most everything has had it’s head
lopped off
thanks to the resident puppy
having made it his personal mission
to upend any and all plants and objects
for inspection
to snap off flower heads, rip leaves and
dig up roots
not much has been spared
my plethora of toads have quite wisely kept themselves
safely out of sight
as well the long stretches of extreme heat
have meant shadier hidden spots
most preferred<\/p>\n\n\n\n
this week I opted not to watch the documentary film
My Lai
about the four hour massacre of over 500 unarmed civilians
women, children and the elderly
in Vietnam,
by American soldiers
the horrific, horrific story, the absolute madness
attempted cover up
and story not broken until much, much later
in which only
one
man
was eventually charged<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am familiar with this story,
though I
didn\u2019t feel this week, up to
witnessing such
again<\/p>\n\n\n\n
as how does one live
with this<\/p>\n\n\n\n
while parts of our world continue to worship at the altar of abject violence
I watched instead the continuing, fascinating archeological dig
in the ancient city of Pompeii
entombed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius
I do so love, the discovering
of 2000 year old
treasure
so amazingly, perfectly
preserved
a whole cityscape begins to
unfold<\/p>\n\n\n\n
possibility
discovery
knowledge<\/p>\n\n\n\n
suited my sensibilities
much better<\/p>\n\n\n\n
the lovely little frog is still in-residence
at the big pond
where we have had to erect a barrier
to keep certain mischievous troublemakers
(also known as Wiz-the-Curious)
out<\/p>\n\n\n\n
August feels to be somehow rushing itself
to an end, doesn’t it
although\u2026
hadn\u2019t we just begun<\/p>\n\n\n\n
this afternoon,
sat still
sun on my skin
watching shapes appear
in the clouds
thoughts begin to
float<\/p>\n\n\n\n
kind of makes one keen
to spend more time
just <\/p>\n\n\n\n
soaking in
the
serene\u00a0\u2665<\/p>\n\n\n\n
