the other day sat in the garden
quietly bathing in
the ever gentle sights and
sounds of
awe
a very young, very chatty robin
comes in, lengthy conversation already
in progress
it begins of course, because he
or rather she… one is not entirely sure
has quite a lot to say
I guess rather new-ish here and not the least bit
shy
they come chattering up the path quite close
to my chair
telling me all
the wonderful news
of
the
day
and seemingly not the least bit concerned
about being chased by an ever curious,
and sometimes very
exuberant
pup<\/p>\n\n\n\n
when most everything has already been
spilled
the cautious parent glides in to let this youngster know
that… maybe not always,
is everyone so
interested
and various things one should be most
careful of<\/p>\n\n\n\n
on the contrary I assure them both
I have of course, enjoyed this lively news report
immensely<\/p>\n\n\n\n
today by the pond, I say good mornings to the fish
and froggie?, I say in inquiring tones
to which as if on cue, he \u2018gungs\u2019 to me
in frog language
so that in his camouflage state,
(without my poking around)
I can spot him
and perhaps this makes us both feel
safe<\/p>\n\n\n\n
in the shower I meet a small spider
climbing on the tile
we also engage in discussions of
the day
I caution him about things becoming slippery
as water falls, and how i do so like my showers
hot
and possible ways of keeping
small bodies (especially of the many legged variety)
safe<\/p>\n\n\n\n
picking out a summer dress, setting my intentions for the day
I tell the dogs
that today I will
need
to go out
farm share vegetables to pick up
and a check in on my new little free library
installed out front
someone has jammed it full of big books
obliterating a bit of the whimsy and
delight
I had originally envisioned
later sitting by the small pond, I say hello to toad
who plops his way in for a swim
I watch as he anchors to his spot for a
float
tadpoles gather on his legs and back
and flutter their tales around his cheeks
and mouth
that forms a smile, much like my own<\/p>\n\n\n\n
as I watch him contentedly
close his eyes
in the sun<\/p>\n\n\n\n
a small white butterfly and a
honey bee
share the same bit of purple sweetness
one
on either side of a sage flower
each
unbothered
by the other<\/p>\n\n\n\n
in the sanctuary of my garden
in beautiful June sunshine
the world seems such
a wonderful
thing<\/p>\n\n\n\n
then the small but mighty wren chimes in
wonders if I had seen
any eleven letter words
floating around
like
clouds
above my head…
