how does one become a father
\nwhen circumstances surrounding having
\nbeen fathered
\nare less than ideal<\/p>\n
when certain examples of
\nhow not
\nto be
\nas a father
\nas a person
\ntake the forefront<\/p>\n
when hurtful words and hurtful actions
\nbecome the memory
\nbut hopefully not
\nthe legacy<\/p>\n
perhaps one then chooses to take those aspects
\nof a man
\nto be admired
\nthe initial basis of human kindness
\nthe good times
\nand there are those<\/p>\n
from a brother
\nwho shares a good heart,
\ngood humour
\ningenuity and know how
\nand a
\nstrong work ethic<\/p>\n
from a friend’s Dad
\nwho takes one in
\nin teenage years, when
\nyou have butt heads
\nwith your own<\/p>\n
from a good friend,
\njust a little bit older
\na one time boss
\nwhose good sense, great humour
\nand shining example of just what a
\ngood husband and
\nfather of two remarkable young ladies
\nlooks like
\nmaybe unknowingly
\nthis friend
\ninstills a beacon of good light<\/p>\n
as time passes
\nthis man
\nthis extraordinary man
\nthrough his own good nature
\nacquires many friendships
\nthat bolster and sustain<\/p>\n
and through the absolute
\nand undeniable kindness
\nof his own generous heart
\nand good fortune \u00a0 ( that’s the me part! )
\nsomehow finds himself
\nsuddenly the father of
\nfour!<\/p>\n
not just a father
\na Dad
\na real great Dad<\/p>\n
also a remarkable human being
\nsolid and strong
\nwhen our first born
\nsomewhat fragile after birth
\nremained in hospital
\nfor three excruciatingly
\nlong weeks
\nhe strengthened both our hearts
\nuntil we
\nwere all
\nwell
\nfor many years our sole breadwinner
\nthat somehow kept us afloat
\nwith not a complaint
\nas our intention
\nhad always been
\nto ‘raise’ our family<\/p>\n
constant steadier of our ship<\/p>\n
I think it’s safe to say
\nmuch admired
\n(especially by me!)<\/p>\n
That
\nis it
\nI guess,<\/p>\n
it’s mostly heart
\nand strength
\nand kindness<\/p>\n
its caring and character<\/p>\n
it’s craziness
\nand it’s fun
\nand it’s
\nLaughter<\/p>\n
it’s blindly opening your heart up
\nto more
\nthan you could possibly
\nimagine<\/p>\n
and it’s not perfection
\nit’s not … never failing
\nit’s not always being certain of things
\nit’s not Ruler supreme<\/p>\n
it’s none of these<\/p>\n
it’s listening
\nit’s learning
\nit’s loving
\nit’s accepting<\/p>\n
it’s anchoring
\nand shouldering<\/p>\n
and also<\/p>\n
it’s beaming
\nwith Pride<\/p>\n
and it’s
\nAmazing<\/p>\n
because when you get the chance
\nto witness
\nthe love
\nin a father’s heart<\/p>\n
and see it reflected
\nin his smile<\/p>\n
that can be
\nthe most magical
\nmeasure
\nof a man.<\/p>\n
