stepping out
\nlarge blue bowl of compost in hand
\nheading to the far corner
\nof the garden
\na fairly mundane task
\nI’m looking down
\nwatching carefully as I step
\nwith two dogs and rather long grass
\nthis
\nhas become my own personal mine field
\nafter reaching my destination
\nand dumping the last of the kitchen scraps
\nfrom my bowl
\nI turn to begin again
\nmy carefully placed steps back
\nthe slightly shrill peeps of the cardinal
\nstop me for a moment
\ncapturing my awareness and drawing my attention
\nup
\nto my surroundings
\nfrom a new perspective
\n(not my usual spot for morning salutations)
\nsoftening my eyes and face
\nI start to look around
\nat the changing and fading shades
\nof green
\nat the tumbling forward of my Iceberg roses
\nstill full of beauty
\nat the gorgeous swelling of a bulbous quince
\nsnuggled here on a more private side
\nof the shrub
\nand up to the late day\/early evening sunshine
\ndancing and glowing on the tops of
\na spectacularly decorated maple tree
\nhighlighting the colours of her changing leaves
\nand up to the sky fully cloaked in it’s deliciously
\ncalming dusky blue\/grey
\nsmiling in appreciation for these few moments
\nand for the quiet peace
\nof this
\nbeautiful day
\nI continue on my way
\nthen there’s Mr. Blue
\nstopping here, to have a look
\nthink he might be smiling
\ntoo
\nI return to my tasks
\neyes full of beauty
\nheart full of Love
\nand
\ngrateful
\nfor this
\nordinary day
