This week, my youngest child graduated high school. \u00a0Our years of public and secondary school are now officially behind us. \u00a0For many years, when my children were small, I volunteered at the school. I helped children with fine motor skills, holding scissors, and pencils the ‘proper’ way, and with literacy, learning and forming letters, sounds and sights, crafts and learning to read. \u00a0I helped with a reading program, supporting and encouraging kids of all ages, and sometimes I just helped some kids be .. \u00a0seen, and heard, and loved.
\n<\/em>Now, as each of my children have graduated, I have seen nearly the last of those children who sat in little tiny chairs beside me, walk across the stage and gather their diplomas.
\nThe least of what I have learned from these children as well as from my own, is this:<\/em><\/p>\n

We should never, not ever fail to see the beauty in a child
\nevery child is different
\nlearns differently
\nabsorbs differently
\nlistens differently
\npresents diferently (or in some cases, not at all)
\nI am not a teacher
\nbut what I want to say to you
\nis this
\nCare
\nPlease care…
\nevery single child
\nhas great strength in them
\nCare about the words you use
\nthe examples you set
\nthe hearts and minds
\nyou touch
\nCare about the bruises you may
\ninflict
\non very
\ntender hearts
\nintentional
\nor otherwise
\nCare about the words
\nthat swirl in their heads
\nand attach themselves to their
\nclothes
\nto their minds
\nand to their bodies
\nCare about whether you have
\nmotivated
\nuplifted
\nbelieved in
\nand touched
\none
\nsmall soul
\nCare about our children
\nevery minute
\nof every day
\nthat you have the power
\nto influence
\ntheir lives
\nCare about the language
\nyou use
\nand your actions
\nShow them your interest
\nand your appreciation
\nEach and Every child
\nneeds to be
\nRecognized
\nno matter their age
\nas they all
\ncarry within them
\na beautiful
\nLight
\nthat we should
\nnever
\nextinguish
\nSee
\nthis
\nLight
\nhonour it
\nregardless of how
\ndeeply hidden
\nand protected it may be
\nRespect the Beauty
\nof each
\n<\/span>Protect
\ntheir Innocence
\nand Increase
\ntheir value
\nof
\nthemselves<\/p>\n

We are all this Light
\nand we as teachers
\nas parents
\nas humans
\nthis
\nis
\nUs
\n<\/span>we are All
\nin this
\ntogether
\nand
\nwe
\nall
\ndeserve
\nthis
