The dog barks, as the sky darkens
and a distant rumbling begins
the kids scramble to check windows
large drops start pelting in increasing frequency
while I
grab a rather large handful of sweet red cherries
as many as I can possibly grasp
errant stems sticking through my fingers
I nimbly step my way through raindrops
like a joyfully devious sprite
to the cabin that overlooks
our pond
really the cabin
is merely a roof and three walls
two and a half even
I stand here eating my cherries
tossing stems and pits into the garden
someone else’s treasure
and watching the rain while it
dances wildly on the surface of the pond
the only sounds I can hear are the rhythmic
pattering of droplets on leaves
water and rocks
while
delightfully splashing my toes
and then the great gathering of thunderous rumbles
that break across the sky
the fish seem just as jubilant as I
as the rumbles increase
and the rain comes down harder
I take a deep inhale, and I am completely filled with Joy
I love a good thunderstorm
especially to be outside
under gargantuan sounds, flashing electrics
surrounded by vibrant luscious colours
the dampness of earth
and a few adventurous birds
every sense engaged in wonder
and awe
and then, only when I have completely bubbled over
with Gratitude
and a lovely sense
of peace
I take myself back in
and
return
to the laundry
then the sun
comes
out ♥
Happy Canada Day!
