This morning I am in love with a bright blue sky
and wispy white clouds
the back drop to the last golden maple leaves
yet to fall
and the shine of the sun
the crispy crunches under foot of frozen things
as I make my rounds to replenish
and the instant thank you notes received from the nuthatch
as I go
this morning love is inspired by time spent early,
finishing a really good book
that has me desperately wanting to read aloud to my husband
but instead leaving it for him to read
next
it’s the blue jays at the feeder all boldness
and beauty
the return of the juncos
and a black squirrel posed on a pumpkin
it is the soft blush of roses suspended in bud
and the fading of others that bring to mind
lovely roast marshmallows
it is the small piling of snow on a dried sunflower
whose head remains un-bothered by the fluffy white cap,
it stands, bowed
in silent slumber
it is also the clinging to a colourful life in pinks and yellows
of the campfire rose in the cold fresh air
and the small bit of purple still showing sincerely
on the phlox
it’s the furry grey bush of a tail hanging in the corner
of the feeder
backside turned out
while he whispers to himself
of his bounty
this morning it is a fresh cool walk
of gratitude
time to breathe, to look, to see, to
open
and
to say thank you
this morning I am in love with a bright blue sky
as now
it has all but turned to grey
and what a shame it would have been
to have missed it. ♥
