Tamara Willems

early signs of a perfect day

I am shaken abruptly awake this morning by the sound of the dog retching in the hall outside my door.
The greatest alarm clock to be sure, as I rush out of bed and down the stairs to reach the door, preferably before the contents of his stomach have been spilled on the floor.
Bleck!  .. I guess, I am awake now.
My husband has already left for work.  The house is still.  Beautifully so.
Deep breath in.
In the kitchen I now notice the coffee is on,
..  no waiting ..  * grin *
Then I spot the note pad just by my cup,
“Have a good day,
I love you xx ”
…  smile …
I cut a large wedge of panettone,  a gift from my love, the first of the season,
it is December after all,
and large wedges is to me the only way I know to serve panettone.
…  breathe in that wonderful scent ..  heavenly
While I read my book, in through the window streams those beautiful golden rays of light,  I push my face up to receive, squinting my eyes and broadening my smile.
…  shine …
I see a visitor has already arrived,  the lovely downy woodpecker, whom my husband has named ‘Gord’, settles on his favourite suet cake, out the window by my chair.
In the kitchen while I get a second cup, I spot a ruby-breasted nuthatch, who is waiting her turn at the feeder, once the sparrows clear off.
…  honoured ..
Passing by the front door on my way up the stairs to shower, I hear a great rustling and scratching sound.  I move the curtain just a bit,  in time to see the tiny face of a grey squirrel peeking in the window!  We meet nose to twitching nose.
… delighted ..
it feels like just the day to do some baking.  Warm kitchen, delicious smells to fill the house and freshly baked goodness to fill  my family.  To practice my pipes with Adele, and even to soar.
..  Love ..
yes, today feels like just the perfect day,
to breathe,
to smile,
to shine
to be honoured
to be delighted
and to be
Love

yes,
Perfect ♥
