Tamara Willems

perfectly unbothered by raindrops

there are ways to manage sunshine
or so I’ve been told

to keep it here
to keep it .. .. here
to keep it, just
here..

let’s take a walk, shall we
let’s venture out
under grey skies and raindrops
feel the wet grass on our toes
and relish in it’s ticklish nature
let’s rattle the branches
let the droplets scatter, inspiring our dancing
as it falls down on our heads and trickles down our spines
no more hovering in doorways
unless of course it’s to steal a kiss
or two
no scowls to dark clouds overhead
whose shadows have now cancelled our plans
for the day
step out..
step out …
there is no melting,
no ruin,
no rushing.
the birds don’t seem to mind a bit
they’re still chirping and squawking and flying about
no worries to hair dos and ruined silks
they pluck worms from the garden
to feed their young
the pond is now completely closed over in a blanket of brilliant green duckweed
seems our water lily has toppled over in the depths
and lies there .. .. unseen
I feel unable to remove the covering
or to rescue our lady
as to do so would disturb the flashing
of tadpoles still milling about
and the fish
and Mathew our snail
seem perfectly unbothered by raindrops above
the poppy lies battered face down in the dirt
I feel you too … my sweet girl
a dove waddling head first straight down the steep roof
next door
seems to have forgotten he has wings
or possibly he’s just enjoying a rainy days ‘extreme’ repelling .. .. makes me smile
and now he is softly cooing his tales of adventure to a mate or friend who’s answer comes from further away
the breeze blows
the clouds roll by
I can feel their heavy humidity
it weighs me down
but if I search for you
my ball of light
I find you there
just long enough to breathe you in
mind
body
soul
and to keep you
just there

after all
there are worst things
than a little rain ..
