Tamara Willems

gently, with notice…

This morning begins
as I believe a Friday morning should
gently
with notice

overcast skies
a bit of the April showers
about
but how beautifully so

gorgeous light from the forsythia
in full bloom
providing exactly the right amount
of sunshine
anyway

coffee poured
by someone you love
at precisely the time of needing
feels forever
a true blessing of life

the news reporting
a Prince of a man has died at ninety-nine
and a lovely wife
will now be
without
her dearest companion

a brief power walk begins with a sigh of frustration
as he will not stop
to notice
the budding to life
of a tiny new shrub

while I
am
refusing
to
miss it

in the soft light of the bathroom
the beauty
of wedding rings on my finger
captivates
I suppose as three days of a work week, I must leave them
behind
their shine today
feels graciously… like home

in this bit of light, I notice
the yellowing bruise covering most of my knee
from last week’s fall
also now extends down my shin
further reminders
of
caring gently for
self

in the garden first thing
toads are less vocal
yet still
everywhere
one must be most careful of stepping
and astutely aware
of
life

after passing with camera in hand
I find one unsuspecting fellow
flipped over by the dog’s large furry feet
with apologies for disturbing
I gently restore him
his
dignity
and leave him his sitting spot
in the light

as the clouds begin just then
to
part
and the softest blue
starts to spread wide
across
my small corner
of
a perfectly, wonderful

world

I smile up at the skies
and say my Thank you
for all
of
this ♥
