This morning dawns in the garden
absolutely beautiful
it’s been a long week
rather more eventful than one would
wish
but also one that comes gently
to a
perfectly peaceful
Friday
in the loveliness of my
happiest
place
this morning in the garden
I’m wondering
why
one would ever wish
to be anywhere else
you know, the way we do
the dream home, the dream location
the dream country, continent… planet..
which for me of course, is almost always
further away
from
people
(forgetting perhaps, a certain state of
loneliness
incurred)
as I walk a much familiar, well-worn path
to the back corner
sidle past magenta phlox
tipped down low by a pummeling rain
today, under blue sky and radiant sun
I feel the most nourishing embrace
of every wild and wonderful thing
that grows here
it’s quiet here, so
there’s that
most conversations being held are
with the birds, the bees, the flowers of course,
the fish, as well as apologies to the occasional spider
when I have inadvertently broken a guy-line
and the chipmunks, who constantly steal in
to see if I may have left any treats
the toads are just a little less visible these hot days
well that, and
the constant bombardment of curious paws
and snuffling snout
crashing around
shortly after sitting down with coffee,
a hummingbird comes in
just
above my head, for something sweet
while I am stood, enjoying the warm sun on the back of my neck
a gorgeous brown bi-winged dragonfly lands
on my foot
and later as I come to sit by the small pond
I am joined by two
Carolina Wrens
for a few minutes the male cardinal and I
speak the same language
while five and twenty blackbirds
(well really just five, that phrase sort of,
rolled off the tongue)
splash about in the birdbath
really, it’s just a Friday
but,
everything in the garden today
feels quite astonishing
and I read somewhere that brown, when it comes to dragonflies
is believed to bring nurturing and healing
well then,
here I am, absorbing light
in the gentlest of places
cause that’s the kind of thing
that suits me
just fine ♥
and you… I hope you are well and surrounded
by love xx
