wild abandon…

This morning my husband
is the first one out,
actually I had already been out at four with the pup
but as this is a day off
we both, puppy and I
happily snuggled back in
husband is greeted this morning, just outside the back door
by a baby bunny
and although I have not seen it
the thought of such
sparks of great joy for me
to know resident wildlife feel welcome here
we have allowed
in our unruly-ness of
a garden
many places for safe passage
for this very
reason

as I wander, this morning
what I’m wondering about
is
do you feel as if your time, is
your own
these days things are all about
being
on the move
movers and shakers, moving things forward,
moving up, moving
on
always…
on the go

as I work three days a week, often I will think
just what it is I need to accomplish
on the other two days
yet when it comes to gorgeous temperatures
and beautiful skies
very often, as you might know
I prefer to just
be

here
in the garden

there is a great quote I love by Bill Watterson
from the much loved Calvin & Hobbes –
“There’s never enough time to do all the nothing you want”

and I’m just wondering, do you take the time
for a bit of
nothing

this morning I watch a thin caterpillar, descending mid-air
on a fine bit of invisible thread
it spins and wriggles in the breeze
a tiny striped spider traveling the side of my chair
thinks of possibly jumping to my arm
while I converse with the toads on the bridge
a metallic green hoverfly disappears into a crevice
on the tree stump table beside me
and a bright yellow and black wasp
chews at bits of wood
one supposes, for papering a nest

behind me, on the fence
the Carolina Wren, vocal as always
sings her heart out
and above, across the way I can hear
a hawk
announcing flights
while the dogs intermittently wrestle
beside me
the puppy, with great curiosity
then
watches and tries to pounce
on
ants

clouds float

we’ve been to pick up a few more plants
to pack in to open spaces
but when he’s gone to work, I let them
sit
where they are and I
volunteer,
to do the same

there really isn’t enough time, you know
unless it becomes a choice

to make it
so ♥

* happy heart
