Today, I sat down to write you a love song
of course it started with a
bright blue sky
with nary
a cloud in sight
and the vision of a lovely half-moon
refusing as he was
to go to bed
at the proper time
remained up there, until way past
noon
not wishing to miss too much
of this beautiful day
It started with the great glory of sunshine
in the garden
that lit most everything so
bright
including the one who
wanders
It started with the delightful arrival
of a new
book
a gift for someone special
that just happened…
to
be
me
It started as well, with the heavy feelings of
grief
carried along from early in the week
with the losing of someone who touched the
very centre of loving kindness
and shone their beautiful light
onward and
out
from there
in moments of shared grief, I saw the comment
‘I have never before cried for someone that I never even met’
and I thought
oh yes, me too
then just as quickly I corrected… oh no,
I have in fact cried many a time
for someone, or someones
that I
have never met
as it was, I spent many parts of the week,
in thoughts of this poet
wrapping myself in their
words
of
infinite living
in the astonishment
of love
I also spent part of my week
frustrated, wanting and
tired
(suppose this is the world being created by
some)
but today,
today the scorching, impossibly hot temperatures
let up a little
and I spent the day in the garden
on a small tidying mission
(relative to wild abandon)
I played with the dogs, watched the butterflies
and bees
moved some duckweed on the small pond
to let a little more sunlight through
to the fishes
while carefully avoiding scooping up any
tadpoles
I listened to a playlist of my choosing
accompanied by a wondrous chorus of cicadas
freshened up the bird baths
and whispered I love you’s to the deep blue sky
hoping this
might
just
rain
down
all
over
me
then I notice something glistening
and magical
dancing
right in front of my eyes
perfectly timed,
I join Ella Fitzgerald
singing
“It’s a lovely day today
And whatever you’ve got to do
I’d be so happy to be doing it with you
But if you’ve got something that must be done
And it can only be done by one
There is nothing more to say
Except it’s a lovely day for saying
It’s a lovely day… “ 🎵 ♥
