Tamara Willems

suitably fortified…

To look out on the garden
mid-to-late January
wondering, as I do…
is it the gorgeously strong seed heads
that tenderly hold the snow
as it falls

or is it the snow
as it gathers
together
in numbers

that indeed add their strength
to the seed heads
as they stand
in
defiance
of the harsh arctic winds
that at this time
bluster
through
the garden

and how intricately beautiful
and heartening
each tiny
detail becomes

when you take a few extra moments
just to
look

suitably fortified
sustenance

who
is holding
who

kind of amazing really
these beauties will
stand
politely some might even say
through all the cruelties the season can
throw

no real reason to whither
as how would that help
a
thing
comes with much smarter notions
of
standing strong
but
together

and waiting for that bitter cold
bluster

to go on then

and
blow itself
out ♥
