Tamara Willems

sweet pea

It rained hard all night
every time I woke
it was pelting the window
and now with it being October, it feels slightly different
not a nourishing kind of rain
more the kind that adds
to
decay

inside it kind of feels
like my heart has developed a slow
steady
drip

but more like a tear
that falls
soft and
silent
the ones you might barely
notice

or like that small pointy bit
at the bottom of it, you know
like when we draw the shape of a heart
like that point has been snagged on a piece of
splintered floor board
trampled under foot,
or completely torn off

outside noise is once again
thunderous
yet one more disgusting display comes to light
and far too many of us
can feel the bruises

one more assault
where you will invite many
and not one
NOT ONE
will report it

brush it aside, clean it all up
no real need after all,
to
sully
his promising future

makes one so angry
and so
weary
and my god, your god… ANYBODY’S GOD
do tell me
how do we prevent
the decomposition
of humanity

I just don’t know

out for my walk
clouds fully close in again
taking most all colour
from the skies

rain continues to threaten

heartening I guess,
to have noticed a wet heart shape on the bathmat
this morning, beside the dog
and on my way back home
to spot the very
last
of the
sweet peas

faint reminders…
I guess ♥
